Yes, seconded. I was delighted when I saw the news as it instantly felt like the right pick: someone experienced and sensible who, as LGF observed, has been in the league since 2013 and so knows it inside and out. And, on a personal level, someone who many of us know from several other leagues (with Radomiak Radom Randoms, Just Plain Random, Sixfield Saints etc.) and from all the evidence seems to be one of the good guys in X11. I'm sure he'll do an excellent job and it'll be a seamless transition.

He immediately asked me to be an assistant, too, and almost equally swiftly similarly appointed Granthamian (of Braceby Ladies, Tuvalu Turtles etc.) who's another very good egg. Had I accepted LGF's offer to take over the league myself I'd certainly have offered assistants' roles to the two of them, so happily we've ended up in much the same place without me winding up actually running the thing. It's just a shame there's not that many OTFers there currently.

As I've noted before, I wish I'd found the J4GL sooner as it's a great league, and in an ideal world I'd probably move Tiree Automatic lock, stock and barrel over from the eternally somewhat irritating Xpert Zone. At least SdR's Tobermory and us are likely to be drawn in the same Pro Zone division again next season after winding up 4th and 6th this time around, i.e. 2/3 of the tiny midtable 'safe zone', after all sorts of ups and downs over the course of the campaign.

You may have noticed that Lessbury Moreborough are now in the J4GL VA. Relegation bound to the 3rd divisions but with some decent youths in there with reasonable DVs.

Sadly any hope we had was extinguished very early doors, they had a much stronger side on paper and it showed as they converted four out of five of their chances. Next time I'll attack rather than try to counter, if there is a next time.

Despite the short turn around time lots of friendlies seem to have been played in the various tournaments so well done SDR for organising that. I hope the real world problems were just temporary.

Hopefully RRR are less impressive against their next opponents.

ZZ dominated possession and chances against Lego Lizards but with our top striker suspended and our next best man-marked we lacked penetration and needed a late equaliser to get extra time. But we're great at penalties, so I was confident when it got to that stage. VVV next. They are clearly the best team, but we managed to knock them out of the Cup (on penalties of course) so maybe we can do it again.

Great J4GL news, Lessbury Moreborough have been fanned Foxy. And I've just received notification that Sits is back in charge at Nakuru Warthogs, his replacement having serendipitously quit again four days ago. And re-supporting them made me discover that we were no longer supporting Joe's Wicklow Warriors (formerly the Unsung Heroes), as I hadn't realised MJ briefly gave up the hot seat during one day last July, which meant Mars Rovers' support of them automatically lapsed. This oversight has now been rectified too.

Sits has returned just in time to have the faintest chance of avoiding relegation for the Warthogs, if he can win their last two matches and other results go his way. As fate would have it, though, Wicklow can only get promoted from the same division if Joe can win their last two matches and other results go his way – and the coming, penultimate match for both this Wednesday is against each other.

Bad luck AE - the Randoms are well overdue a title, although as Etienne points out their next opponents are a stern test.

Aside from the Plate where only two of eight fixtures went ahead, the rest was pretty good - a full compliment in the Vase and only a couple of missing fixtures in the Trophy. Fixtures for the Quarter Finals are now up on the official PR. Also positive is that we have a full roster of active managers, everyone having logged in within the last week. I've also had an enquiry from another manager so there is also the rare luxury of a waiting list. A much better situation than the last couple of seasons.

Great work SdR, things look set quite nicely for MLX.

Wish I could say the same for Underground, having just emerged from a bruising L16 encounter with Balotellitubbies – 8-7 on penalties to us! – to find we're the above-mentioned saps who've drawn RRR. Amazingly for two sides who have the best ever regular-season records by some way, we've only ever encountered each other four times competitively, all of them in either the Cup or playoffs, and none of those since Season 10. Having won two then lost two, we've not beaten them in a competitive fixture since Season 4...

It strikes me, since we're getting them in the quarter-finals this time, am I imagining it or does that mean we'll finally wind up in the same MLX division next season, at the fifteenth time of asking??

Today was an odd one. With two of my three senior midfielders out of contention (Dollis Hill still recovering from injury, Euston suspended – I always forget cards aren't wiped at the end of the regular season, aargh) I had little choice but to go a slightly loony 3-4-3. It gave us great firepower in attack with Pimlico, Waterloo and Fairlop all together, but unfortunately Paolo Pimlico did what I'm picturing as a Gazza-on-Gary Charles in the 1991 Cup Final type of challenge on a 'Tubbies player late in the first half and got booked for injuring him, then promptly broke down himself as soon as the game restarted. So his season is over, Dollis Hill limped on up front, and despite their having had to bring on a forward in defence we stumbled to a 1-1 draw that extra time couldn't break. Like Etienne I was reasonably confident about spot-kicks, but with goalie Larry Leyton out of form there were 14 straight successful penalties, including one scored by Leyton himself, before they finally missed their third sudden-death effort. 23-year-old Hugo Highgate stepped up to score our winning kick, mercifully, as we'd just run out of experienced players to take one.

Can't see us troubling the Randoms in the next round, looking like this. Not sure about the near or midterm future for Underground either – certainly our remaining cohort of ever-present veterans are starting to near the end of the line from here on. All three senior MFs (Euston, Goodge Street, Dollis Hill have struggled for form and DV this season, and Graham Goodge Street is in fact set to lose skill at the CR, which could mark the start of the slippery slope for our senior contingent. Tonight may have been our last gasp, at least for the time being.

Much of Viking South Utsira’s rise up the X11 Ladies pyramid has been done in parallel with La République de Random. Most recently the sides finished as the top two in Division 3e last season and were both promoted. Despite The Blood Eagles coming off second-best in that contest, they are the ones who have adapted best to life in Division 2b, pushing on towards the top whilst Random are struggling at the other end.
Would the trend continue in this game? Going ahead through Manuças Fudida’s 13th minute penalty was certainly a good start. The visitors were not quite ready to shuffle off this mortal coil then though, equalising nine minutes later. The score stayed level until early in the second-half, Emilie Klovning racing away to put Velvet Android’s side back into a lead they held until the end.
The win keeps Viking third in the table, a point behind the play-off place. And give us pause to also check on Random, who are now really struggling in seventh, with just four points to their names.

Drakaina welcomed leaders Gastele to Delphi, The Dragons hoping to end their visitors unbeaten start, or at least become the first side to score a goal against them!
Both ambitions would unfortunately go unrealised. Etienne’s side never really threatened to score, but they were holding firm for a point well past the hour. However this was in the face of an onslaught, and that eventually told as Gastele grabbed the winner on 74 minutes.
Drakaina remained fifth in the Division 4h table as the bottom two sides drew and the one in sixth lost. However one can’t rely on that sort of thing forever, and with sixth vs seventh coming up this weekend, it is high time to get the points total ticking over again.

That dial had been spinning nicely for Coxy Ladies Wulpen recently, with three straight league wins leading into their game with FC Nee-Nee.
The Waders looked good to make it four from four when Aurelie Wostijn’s long range shot had them one up after just three minutes. However Nee-Nee are also going well, unbeaten in fact and they quickly stabilised, whilst Wulpen were somewhat undermined by two injuries which included a nasty 19-day knock suffered by midfield general Nanna Bjerre Nielsen.
Whilst the disruption didn’t help Janik’s side it would be unfair to say that was the only reason why Nee-Nee scored three unanswered after the break... but seeing as their manager almost certainly isn’t reading this really, really didn’t help!
Despite the loss Coxy Ladies position in the Division 4i table remains solid – they sit fourth, five points behind second and four in front of the side currently sixth.

Matchday 6 brought a must win game for Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC, who visited a Bethanys Binos outfit that began the match five points ahead of The Sea Spirits and also represented the fifth placed target that SeanoftheShed’s side need to chase down.
The first noteworthy incidents were good signs for the Indonesians, Cindy Prins having an early effort disallowed and Diana Doom opening the scoring from the spot after 32 minutes. However dig a little deeper and worrying indications were already present, the Binos holding 60% of the ball in the opening half and creating five chances to Kanjeng’s two.
Could the Sea Goddesses survive another half like that, or would they make it a more balanced game after the break? Neither unfortunately, as things continued in pretty well the same pattern, except with Bethanys scoring twice in two minutes midway through the second period. A third on 81 minutes killed things, and possible The Sea Spirits hopes for the league this season as the defeat left them bottom of Division 4k, eight points adrift of safety.

Another key relegation match pitted LNWR Locomotive up against Stoke City Ladies XI.
The early going at the Britannia Stadium was even in terms of possession but not chances which cleaved 3-0 to the host, or goals as they netted a solitary first half strike. Stoke made it two on 52 minutes, but The Steamers struck back four minutes later when Lisa Ryman turned home.
The lift the equaliser had given Locomotive was cancelled out three minutes later when The Steamers strongest midfielder, Adozinda Vergueiro, suffered an 11-day injury. Despite her replacement being pretty handy, the momentum was lost and it was the hosts who were the side to score the day’s fourth and final goal.
The belligerents swapped places in the Division 5:16 as a result of this match, which leaves Viktor Boskovic’s charges seventh, three points from safety.

Five wins from five, 20 goals scored and one conceded were the stats for Erbil prior to their game at LuCa FC, who held the mirror image record.
The hosts analysis might look like that of a zombie, but they are actually actively managed. It’s just they are also rather young. The root cause of their weakness hardly matter as this was one-way traffic, though not quite from the start as an injury to Sharyn Bullock early on (6 days) initially disrupted Jdsx’s side.
Once they had got past that and begun playing again, then there was a tale to tell. The central character was dead-ball specialist and skipper Saga Isgren. She netted a hattrick, the opener from a direct free-kick after 21 minutes, another curled around the wall and in after 30 minutes and the match-ball claimer from the spot with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
Also on the scoresheet were Alanza Solaun, who bagged the second of the day on 23 minutes, Mellissa James (the last strikes in either half, on 37 and 84) and Tülin Besen with a header just after the break that made it five.
Erbil remain in command of Division 6:4, three points clear of second-placed Djuped BK and with a stronger goal difference as well.

It was also a cakewalk for Sockford Emollient, though the side they welcome to John Spencer Street, LA Cheerleaders, were full-on zombies.
LA Zombie Cheerleaders? That sounds like a sexploitation film, doesn’t it? And indeed it is, or should have been since it appears that that film was never made. Anyway, Sockford took the role of the Gatorshark in this version, chewing up the Cheerleaders with goals from Hege Haraldsen on 6 minutes, Alexia Batistuta on 10 and 36, Monica Parks after 49, Lise True on 63, Lotta Ericson providing the finale with 86 on the clock.
The win kept Foxy265’s mob on the heels of leaders Chili Babes, with just two points separating the sides prior to back-to-back meetings over the next two rounds. Those will surely decide the destiny of the Division 6:39 title.

A good recent run of form had Invisible Ladies hoping ahead of their game against Luculenus LFC.
A See-Throughs win would have put them right into the Division 6:41 promotion mix, but unfortunately Pebblethefish’s girls found themselves on the back foot for most of this one. Luculenus took the lead on 41 minutes and added to their advantage after 79. Alva van der Kwast pulled one back just two minutes later to raise hopes in The San Seethrough, but the fans were ultimately to be disappointed as an equaliser was not forthcoming.
Defeat meant that the gap between Invisible and the top two has now expanded to five points, which is a lot to claw back.

The only OTF derbies this season will be between Solent Sirens and Witches of Chiswick. The first meeting of the sides occurred in this round at Mayfield Park.
Chiswick had the first opportunity of the match on 13 minutes when they were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position. It was played in towards Khal Eesi, but her effort was saved by Banaz Pinachi in the Solent net. Six minutes later Bewitched ‘keeper Miyuki Kurihawa was called into action for the first time as she dealt with a great volleyed effort from Geovana Abbiati. Abbiati was not to be denied for long however, finishing a much simpler chance on 27 minutes as she sidefooted home.
Chances were coming in a rush for Solent as this point, Marlene Stieglecker attempting to lob Kurihawa on 31 minutes but seeing the stopper punch clear. Like Abbiati before her that was just the prelude to converting a less telegenic chance, Stieglecker making it two on 33 minutes as miss-hit attempt crept in. Abbiati had another go at the spectacular just before the break but once again she didn’t get the reward for a well struck volley, the ball fizzing just over the bar.
The game had less action after the break, though Luciana Beja came close to pulling one back for Wiblflibl’s side when her diving header came back off the post after 61 minutes. However the points were already well in Solent’s command and were completely wrapped up in the 78th minute when Stieglecker completed the scoring with a precise header.
The win was enough to move Andrew7610’s Sirens up to second in Division 6:42, whilst The Bewitched remain fifth, just two points ahead of the drop zone.

Menywod Maeshafn faced one of the bigger challenges of their promotion push when they took on third-placed The World Is Yours.
The first half of this was one was pretty dramatic, with chances at both ends from the get go. Elodie van Hijde was the first to register a legitimate blow on 10 minutes, closely followed by an illegitimate one from Monalisa Corleone. The World took advantage of that let off to equalise after 24 minutes, but IsThatcherDeadYet’s side were not all-square for long, Hannah Palmgren nodding them back in front just four minutes later.
Things calmed down rather after the break, though van Hijde was able to notch a third after 58 minutes. The only other key action saw Maeshafn ‘keeper and skipper Hannele Sundvall carried off after 73 minutes with a 17-day knock. Fortunately for Maesahfn, not only did they have a ‘keeper on the bench, the one in reserve, Agnes von Sydow, is actually one grade better than Sundvall.
von Sydow was brought in last season and was probably signed with a view to taking over as first choice. That died when she announced her impending retirement in the coming closed season whilst Suindvall didn’t, and that despite von Sydow being a year younger. This was therefore her first appearance of the campaign, and presumably she will get another couple whilst her rival recovers. Maeshafn will be looking to preserve and maybe build upon their six point in Division 6:56 in the games von Sydow plays, but she is unlikely to be truly tested seeing as they are both against the bottom side.

Matchday 6 brought a mid-table encounter for Dublin City Womens FC as they travelled to the Gulf to take on Real Persian CF.
The hosts had the better of a goalless first half. And the second. Mortal Joe’s side were creating chances on the break in what was an open game, but not as many as Persians’ pressure was forcing. Former Blood Eagle Ivy Ryder stood up to the barrage until the 85th minute when the hosts finally beat her for a win that one has to admit they deserved.
Defeat was an opportunity missed for Dublin as the side occupying the Division 6:57 play-off place were also being turned over. A win could have lifted The Dubs to within a point of second spot, but as it is they remain fifth, four points back of that and only two ahead of the drop zone.

Csiki Girls recently history has seen them yo-yoing between the sixth and seventh tiers. As things stand another upgrade is in the offing, something strugglers Bigbay Gals were unlikely to derail.
The Csiki’s were the dominant side from the start, and were one up after 18 minutes when Carlota Igreja raced away to open the scoring. It was only one at the interval, mostly as manager ad hoc had opted for security against a side whose only real route to victory was a 1-0 steal.
Despite the 5-4-1 defensive set there were still further chances for the Csiki’s as their visitors were forced by the scoreline to come out a little. Two of these were clinically converted in quick succession midway through the half, Trudy Woozley smacking home a direct free-kick and Igreja sweeping in her second of the day.
With no chances offered at the other end this added up to a comfortable win, which kept Csiki Girls top of Division 6:62. Their lead is just two points, but with a large gap back to third in what is a two horse race.

As girls de charneca manager Antepli Ejderha noted, promotion should be a relative formality with the seven other sides in Division 7:27 are all zombiefied, the latest of which to shamble into view being Escobar.
There is currently a large turnover of players happening at the Insan Haklari Stadyumu as AE reshapes his squad, and it was one of the new arrivals who got the opener, 20/6 forward Penelope Campos taking just 8 minutes to register her first goal for the club. The second arrived ten minutes later and it came from the spot, scored by a more established squad member in Merdaleiro Áláfinesse.
Campos made it three early in the second-half from an assist by Ophelia Blatherwick, whose name manages to capture stockbroker belt Southerner and chippy Northerner in one fell swoop. Another newbie, Ana Raquel Pedroso, notched the fourth on 53 minutes, the final strike of the day falling to Áláfinesse on 74 minutes.
For now charneca remain second in the table, two points behind the leaders and four ahead of fourth. That might turn around as soon as next week, though.

Erbil were probably the marginal favourites against fellow Division 6 side Seba United FC.
The balance of play certainly supported that supposition, and then some. Jdsx’s side were the only ones seemingly interested in playing Football, creating all the chances whilst Seba preferred to kick Erbil players and collect cards instead. Unfortunately that sort of attitude works annoyingly well in Football, and Erbil were thrown off their game by all the hacking as seven chances came and went unconverted over the 120 minutes.
Not even Seba being reduced to 10 for most of the second half of extra-time (and not before time, either!) could conjure a breakthrough. So it went to penalties, with Erbil having a somewhat hurt ‘keeper after Ella Sahlström took a minor knock not long after Leah Eustace’s red card. That made Sahlström the second Erbil player hurt in the game, following a much more serious injury to forward Melissa James (20 days).
However, despite missing a very likely taker and having a less than fully mobile ‘keeper, it was Erbil who came through the shoot-out. Sandra Brundin, Saga Isgren, Sabina Granå, Alanza Solaun and Ana Isabel Baia all scored whilst Seba’s fifth taker, Caroline Remis, was foiled. Erbil’s reward is a Round 5 meeting with Division 3e side St.Hallvards IF.

Two levels up was the challenge for Sockford Emollient against Division 4 side Punktown´s Succubi.
It was one that Foxy265’s side seemed to be doing well in, albeit via a backs-to-the-wall effort, as the first-half ended goalless and nearly chanceless. However the days crucial action probably happened in the dying minutes of that period when first choice Emollient ‘keeper Oianiyi John picked up a minor knock. Her replacement, Matilde Gana, is a ‘keeper by trade, but Gana is young and inexperienced and she was beaten by both shots she faced after the break.
A frustrating way to exit, but a good showing by the Framleyshire girls nonetheless.

LNWR Locomotive were also facing opponents from two tiers higher in FC MadKuts Cologne of Division 3.
Viktor Boskovic sent his side out with a similar park-the-bus strategy too. But in The Steamers case this wasn’t undermined by a ‘keeper injury, as Ahu Gültag survived the whole 120 minutes unscathed. And did so unbeaten as she saw off five shots, those being the handful of times Cologne got beyond man-of-the-match Narcisa Mocãnitã, who was putting in a grade 18 display in front of Gültag.
So to penalties. MadKuts were taking first, and scoring first. Ragna Hofvander, Lisa Ryman, Phrigit Heart and Corália Vilhena each responded for Locomotive, but when it came to Karlo Perätalo’s turn she cracked and her team exited. Exited with considerable honour though.

The two Division gap was reversed for Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC as they took on seventh tier side Hallsta Oilers. It was a welcome break from league struggles for The Sea Spirits, and the weight lifted off their shoulders was obvious in a match they dominated from the outset.
SeanoftheShed’s side had two-thirds of the ball for most of the day, creating a string of chances. Diksha Dalmiya headed them ahead after 17 minutes and though Hallsta equalised very much against the run of play early in the second-half, Leila Azeite soon put matters back right again with a direct free-kick. Any flickering chance of an upset was fully extinguished around 10 minutes later when Tia Farisy made it 3-1.
And with that history was made by Kanjeng as neither in this incarnation nor any previous time in Franchise history had they been beyond Round 4. In fact this match was just their second ever go at that, following a debut appearance at the Arena last season. Can they go further? Well next up is something both close to home and monstrous as they take on Krakens Bk, but more importantly than the jokes on the name is that Kraken are a Division 5:12 side, i.e. one tier down on The Sea Spirits.

Another favourite on paper was Drakaina. They were taking on Noppa FF who operate one tier lower than The Dragons in Division 5.
Did the match follow the predicted pattern? Oh, you betcha. It was such a one-sided encounter that Etienne’s girls could afford to coast after half-time because they were already three to the good by the interval. And that was no fluke, as the Greeks were all over Noppa for the entire first-half, with two-thirds of the ball and a host of chances. Those converted were on 6, 21 and 44 minutes, the scorers being Susanna Barry, Roseanne Beattie and Grace Winter respectively. Barry also had assists on the latter two goals to finish the day with three points.
Round 5 represents something of a breakthrough for Drakaina after three straight seasons stalling at the fourth stage, which was their previous best. Having blown through the glass ceiling, might they rise further still? Well a match against a side from the same level, such as against Division 4b outfit Jitex BK, makes that seem quite possible.

And finally we come to a team with greater goals in sight, such as actually winning the whole shebang. That is Viking South Utsira of course.
Now, one always wants OTF sides to win, but when they are playing against a complete sexist fuckwit such as the tosser in charge of Homemaker Blues that desire is magnified. In a perfect world it wouldn’t just be a defeat, it would be a humiliation. We can’t really claim The Blood Eagles managed that, but they did at least comprehensively win the match. And simply removing the stain does at least clean up the competition, so congratulations to Velvet Android and his team.
They did it through very efficient finishing, with just one Utsiran chance going unconverted all afternoon, and the other three finished off. Manuças Fudida got the opener from close range after 39 minutes, Emilie Klovning doubled the advantage on a breakaway 11 minutes from time and Moa Jönsson rub some salt into the wounds by nodding the third as stoppage time approached.
Next up for Viking is a match against 13th seeds Zak Diner. Despite the high number, they only operate in Division 4b, but are managed by the designer of the game which ought to count for a fair amount. That said this team haven’t progressed that heavily in wayne’s 20 seasons at the club, 4b being as high as he has ever got them.

Bless you Janik for your latest herculean efforts, bravo indeed and more power to your elbow sir.

Though damn you for getting my hopes up over LA Zombie Cheerleaders, only to dash them a moment later.

Glad you enjoyed VSU's casual dismantling of Homemaker Blues on Saturday – I too was hoping for a more profound thrashing, but 3-0 from 4 chances will, as you say, certainly do. The previous weekend's game against Ykraina was statistically interesting because Lurdes Quental scored her landmark 150th lifetime goal for us, then just seven minutes later so did Manuças Fudida... and then Quental scored her 151st, then so did Fudida again. The pair of them overhauling the previous longstanding club record of 145 recently is clearly not the end of it, although Fudida's addition of two more goals this last week to move onto an outright lead of 153 by two goals suggests she may pull clear at last now.

The next round is indeed going to be interesting up against wayne's Zak Diner. He's not the designer of the game as such, if by that you mean original creator (that was the long-gone Iwe), but he's certainly the man who's kept everything just about running over the past couple of years virtually single-handed at times. I don't really know if he's much of an actual manager, though, so next weekend will put that to the test...

Oh, there are other Zombie Cheerleader films. One is Zombie Cheerleader Camp, which comes up with an IMDb review including the words "there are Gems, Crap, and some worth while indie zombie films worth checking out. Zombie Cheerleader Camp is definitely close to the bottom of the barrel." However that meisterwerk doesn't include the concept of a Gatorshark.
I'm a bit reticent about using the common nickname for all Framleyshire sporting ventures for a female side i.e. the one based on the primary local industry, which would be The Fluffers. I see some problems there... Therefore I have been search for a nickname to adopt for Sockford, and am tempted by The Gatorsharks. Unless Foxy has a better one he would prefer me to use?

I think it's only the team(s) from Framley itself who are Fluffers. Wouldn't Sockford Emollient just be the Socks, or something? How about the Mollies?

D'oh, Foxy had already replied. That'll teach me to refresh the page first.

Sadly as with last season, the Monkeys are the team standing between Dandy Town and maximum points in their final fixture. So, well, that's not happening clearly.
