An action-packed day yesterday. First, Hornville grabbed their best result of the season - 2-0 away to the Kneebiters - to move three points clear of safety. However, our next two games are against Vita Mortis and Hideous Towns so we may be back in the bottom three before our final game of the season which looks a must-win against Les Inc.

In the Heineken I decided that promotion was probably a step too far too soon and that DV for the younger players was more important. Naturally, we beat the leaders away from home and finish only a point behind them in second. Nothing like having your cake and eating it, eh Theresa? This means we'll have two OTF derbies against Methley Perseverence to look forward to next season.

      Well done, SdR

I'd missed that it was the Dragons bye week, and thus was completely oblivious to us taking a giant step towards the title while sitting on our arses - thanks to WdlZ drawing with the Swine.

        Yes well done indeed SDR.

And yes Etienne, funnily enough I noticed that too. And next round it's the Swine sitting on their fat arses. I hope they can get themselves up again. At least the point was enough to see the little piggies back in the big time, subject to restructuring.

Gloucester Old Spots were not so fortunate in the final round of the Heineken, getting their required win but it was academic as Royal Atlantis won and go up (hooray). Plus division champs Strarchaser already had their flip-flops on and lost to Real Rusholme, who kept hold of the other promotion place. Never mind, the Spots will lurk in the lower level, Gollum-like for another season, brooding.

OTF party of three in HLC 2 next season, as ad hoc's Csiki Sods and my Lokomotiv Leiden extend our joint upward movement. In Season 39 our teams met in HLC9, which was the first of seven consecutive divisional titles divided between our teams (Csiki Sods taking HLC9, 7, 5, and 4; Lokomotiv Leiden taking HLC8, 6, and 3). Let's see if the Spots can throw a spanner in the works.

Whilst it's always nice to share a division with OTF chums, I can immediately see another barrier to progress. Or two, to be precise.

It's a funny old game, innit? There I was, feeling sorry for myself as my second-choice free kick taker (34/10) got a 12-day injury last Thursday, when this Monday my first choice free kick taker (25/10) gets a 13-day injury, ruling him out till the day after the end of the season. To make matters worse, he was (narrowly) top of both 'goal scorers' and 'points' charts as well. Hey ho. Promotion to Div 1 now looking rather unlikely....

My first-choice free kick taker across all my teams (34/15) is about to retire, despite >10 DV. I fear the next season.

I have become somewhat hooked to Dream League 2017 on the android. The wifi vs a human game is great (unless it buffers at which point it is maddening). Anyway - bereft of creativity I put the team in all yellow and named them Hornville.

Anyhoo, do we still have enough obsessed people on this thread to read pre-CR DV reports? If so, here is Lokomotiv Leiden's:

                    Pos Name Age Skill DV
                    GK Grant Robb 27 13 17
                    D Codrut Alexie 34 15 11 (retiring)
                    D Thomas Tant 29 12 15
                    D Aythami Salgado 26 13 14
                    D Sebastien Lux 23 9 16
                    D Noah Emerson 20 7 17
                    MF Slavoljub Beric 33 14 11
                    MF Leonhard Kohn 30 12 14
                    MF Jahangir Fakhiri 27 13 15
                    MF Jean-Pierre Delpech 24 10 16
                    MF Jens Sigfridsson 22 8 16
                    MF Byron Angel 20 6 16
                    F Gordon Malloy 27 11 14
                    F Gonçalo Madruga 22 9 15
It'll do. Codrut was our free kick specialist, and the next one in line is Jens, so we're going to miss out on loads of goals next season. But the squad looks good for next season; the only question is whether HLC2 will allow us to play more youngsters that we might buy.

My last massive screenshot scared me off but I'll try and get the Spots later.

Those are acceptable as you say Wouter. Not too many jumps if you don't mind.

This should be the screenshot with the DV for Vizima Vandals, I am quite happy with that. Both my youngsters in defence and midfield bought before the season got 18 DV, I hope one of them gets a double jump.

Wow Joe, 4x18 is very impressive - I'd expect at least a couple of doubles there. Munday and Berkeley could be very valuable prospects at 18/7 and 19/8 respectively.

Bloody hell Joe, that is some going. Here Royal Atlantis' final look for Season 45 – pretty disappointing across the board, frankly, particularly the attack. As can be seen, it was probably just as well the season ended when it did because we'd struggle to field an XI for another fixture:

Harald Hardrada's midseason arrival from the youth academy has been a real highlight, at least. 9 games, 7 points, 2 goals, 5 assists, 5 yellow cards (including Friday's, before it got 'upgraded') and 1 red card. Our final game ended 10-a-side as both he and a Charente Maritime counterpart were booked twice late on and sent off a minute apart for arguing, presumably with each other. New cult hero, anyway, and there's a moderate chance he could double-jump immediately, judging by his match ratings (6s and a 7), I hope.

The good DV for the Vandals was due to spending a lot of econs in training. Last season I sold three of our more valuable players and bought Munday and Berkeley. There is always the risk they had a double jumpp before, but otherwise I am hopeful that one of them will double jump, when not this season then next.

But it is odd, sometimes you can put loads of money into training and you get very disappointing results, happened last season with one of my younger strikers in J4GLs The Unsung Heroes who got only on 12 DV (luckily he jumped), but training is not always the secure way to good DV.

At the moment I am quite happy with my 14 private teams and the XPert Ladies Team (even they did not win one game this season). The only team I have problems with is my official team, Novigrad Free Spirits in the Major League. I am not quite sure it is because of the Official League or because of the specific team. I applied today for a quite wealthy young team in the Dream League. At the moment I really like to build up a team and surprisingly I have the patience for it, be it Dublin City Womens FC, recently Chapelizod Hornets in The Human League, The Unsung Heroes in the J4GL or Palmerstown Punchers in the Betfair League.

My latest project is Ballyfermot Rovers in the Skol Super League. After winning three titles with them the older highly skilled players started to retire and the last change report was disappointing and the team was not competitive anymore. So I sold the assets and got over 5ßm econ and got young players for it.

Make no mistake, I am not someone who wants to build a 17/4 youth team which peaks for three seasons, get titles and will be brake up again. I am trying to build a good conveyor belt team, but I am failing miserably so far because wehen I have that the money is gone, training not possible and the team is fading.

But I really like at the moment to build a team with the wheeling and dealing involved.

Quite happy with that. No double jumps, but singles across the board.

The skill calculator tells me that Noah's exact skill can be either 8.5 or 7.8, but no number inbetween those two. It makes quite a bit of a difference which of the two it actually is. I guess we'll know after the next change report.

For Sark, our reserve keeper double jumped, which is very useful as it means we can now play him in a wider range of games than just ones where we can afford to concede a goal from every shot.

Our ageing team means that there weren't a huge amount of jumps elsewhere.

Any ideas what the theory behind having those single skill bar players might be?

I asked someone who had a few players like that in a strong squad and he said that sometimes opponents just look at the strength bars of their opponents rather than looking at individual players, and the 1 bar players drag that down leading to opposition complacency. Seems unlikely mind.

Also allows for more flexibility in rebuilding your squad. If this guy would want to sell his 27/13 and 19/7 forwards to start anew with 16/4s, he can sell first, keep the 24/1 as lone forward, and then go shopping when the money has arrived. If the 24/1 wouldn't be there, he wouldn't be allowed to sell both other forwards before buying others.

Meanwhile, in the OTF top flight, with only two games to go a whopping ten out of twelve teams are still fighting for something meaningful. This is all very exciting.

Solid CR for Kakanui KuneKune. Everyone under 30 a single jump so that's plus 10.

Of the veterans, 37-year-old midfielder Amadeus Winberg dropped a bar and 36-year-old defensive legend, and only foundation player Aaron Pepper announced he will retire.

ZZ had a solid one too, with no retirements and Astarloza's (second) double jump being the highlights.

                                                  Comment

At KK, I've decided for the long term good of the conveyor belt to sell two quality young players:

One is 20/8 Headers Burglar striker, Seamus Murtagh. I usually farm strikers out at 22, but both he and partner, Cool Headers Pokere Ngati Te Ara (21) are ahead of the 17/4 path, and I don't want to risk losing value if one doesn't jump next time. Murtagh is worth more (6.8m) so gets the chop. Pleasingly he triggered a bit of a flurry within hours of listing and is currently at 4.2m with four days left. That's always nice. A junior or 17/4 Vanilla will come in.

The other is definitely a bittersweet sale and is 23/12 Vanilla defender Jonathan Rosell. He came in from the academy as an 18/6 and has DJ'd since. Already a veteran of the title-winning season, he has to go because a 17-year-old is needed and he's the one who doesn't fit on the belt, sadly. He is worth 9.7m though, which eases the pain.
