    X11 season 45 - de rigueur Mortis

As per today it looks like no games have been played. I was today on XPert11 to check my game at 1pm and it was not played, still shown as we have to play. And from a look in the forum no game has been played today at all. I hope that is not a bad omen, just a problem with the server. Maybe even an update, but that would be too much to expect...

I had a transfer I was waiting on with a noon deadline, but that has frozen too

Just trying to work out how much I may have lost on VIP if it's all gone tits-up.

And all the extra teams... I just hope this is just a simple server error and it will be solved by tomorrow. The problem is, Wayne has not logged in for today, so if this his day off they might not be aware...

Just logged in for first time today and found admin message from Sean in the Heineken that Athletic United are available. If Gawpus is reading, that's the artists formerly known as Gremlic United, in case you fancy getting your old position back...

Am as confused as everyone by the apparent server lags. My Brythonnic Premiership game from 12:30 UK time appears to have been played, but my Mars Rovers player (new 16/3 MF Anton Mundilfari) whose transfer deadline was at 3pm and should have departed exactly three hours ago is still on our books.

Whatever the cause of today's technical gremlins - and it's days like today you realise that X11 is actually pretty stable - it has forced Pelin out of the woodwork, which can only be a good thing. He's actually expressed intent to start communicating generally too - though whether this happens remains to be seen of course.

Thanks for the heads up VA, but I'm happy just to stick with my two teams for now.

                      Goalie: +1
Defence: Murillo and Griffiths +1, others flat - even bloody Meredith
                      Forwards: Both +1
Midfield 31+: Two flat, Varejao -1

I'm finding I have too many X11 teams, all of whom are rubbish, and I'm whittling down the roster so I can spend my time concentrating on managing fewer teams better.

Horten Market's CR was, predictably, terrible, so I've resigned. But not before letting Finnish talisman Jacob Fijnaard go - the single greatest goalscorer I've had in X11 - and preparing this wee tribute... (which the board has squished up)

Sorry to see you leave Horten Market, thought my Penwith Players and HM would be stuck in the midtable of HLC13 until the end of time!

Sorry to lose you Andrew. Good luck with your remaining leagues, and should you ever decide you want to rejoin the Heineken then I'm sure I can find an opening for you.

That's a magnificent tribute to Jacob Fijnaard, Andrew, even if I'm quietly gutted to learn it coincides with the end of your tenure at Horten Market. Brilliant bit of work on the 'card', and I too will be sorry to see you go from the Heineken.

Talking of gutted, Royal Atlantis contrived to lose our final game of the season in the 89th minute, costing us the HLC3 title in heartbreaking fashion: we only needed a draw and controlled most of the match until the closing stages against Glenmavis United, who also saved themselves from relegation with that dramatic last-gasp winner. It did though hand the crown to a surprised Sits' Gloucester Old Spots – who'd topped the table after the first round of matches but then didn't do so again, except for the very last minute of the campaign. He who laughs last, etc....

In better individual news my remarkable forward Ali Khan achieved his 6th career silver medal (for Most Points, having taken the last seven golds in a row for this), and his 17th and 18th gold medals, for Most Assists and MVP respectively – the latter his first ever, having previously managed just one silver six seasons earlier. After the retirements of some veteran players elsewhere, his lead at the top of the extant all-time Most Points chart (on 264) for the Heineken League has risen to 62, over now-2nd Sylvester Horridge of the newly rechristened Fulham Palace, formerly Gremlic United, while his 163 goals now place Khan top of that chart too after the retirement of Sloppy 2nds' Sunti Wachiriban on 169. His 101 assists put him 2nd to Horridge's 115 there, one ahead of Matthias McEnroe of FC SanAnn and one further ahead of Atlantis teammate Simão Prestes on 99. Alas SanAnn are promoted as HLC2 winners, but the other three players will all be in that division next season.
Horridge unfortunately has announced it will be his last, so there could be an interesting three-way race to succeed him at the top of the assists rankings; my two are both playing on, although Prestes' role at 37/11 will undoubtedly be reduced.

Amid the disappointment of our season's ending and my forgetting the CR was due last night, I forgot to note our final DVs but this is basically them, cropped from a screengrab I did before our last game – I think there might have been one or two points added in total but no more:

After the Change Report, it's not looking great. Goalkeepers both climbed a bar, but defence is a bit of a nightmare: Old has quit (as a 37/12) meaning Ironside is now our top defender, but the latter took a 26-day injury against the Spots a month ago and only made it back, badly out of form still, for the final match. His development stalling was always a given, but I never even imagined he'd lose a bar at the CR – yet that's what's happened. The younger three are all a bit meh too (Fairhair also failed to jump) so I may need to scrape the cash together now for another stopgap veteran.
Midfielders did all creep up a bar except for Prestes, who lost another.
Strikers were bizarre, on paper: Khan really surprised me by adding a bar, though King naturally stalled – having begun as a 16/4 he's always strangely struggled for DV and now is not even keeping up with his original skillpath, somewhat embarrassingly. Hunger (who debuted as 17/4 but has the happy combo of HT, Cool and Greedy) looked a much better bet to turn out properly great, but has stalled too to cancel out the previous season's double-jump. So it's the 34-year-old Khan still leading the way for another season at least!

Lokomotiv Leiden CR take home message: 34/15 freekick specialist Codrut Alexie is retiring. Nuts.

We just bid on a player, and found out to our dismay that the current number of bids on him is seven. I expect to end up in a bidding war.

I confess I'd really love to see a complete set of Top Trumps cards for your team(s) now...

Elsewhere, meanwhile, if it's quiet and no-one's looking then I think I might permit myself a small whoop of joy. Then put my shirt over my head and run off up the touchline.

Feeling a little better about the Old Spots with the arrival of our post-CR junior: Rio Singleton, 16/4 Burglar defender.

That's nudged the squad value up a tad.

Hornville are back in the top flight! Interestingly, it's coinciding with the squad's veterans all passing their use-by dates at once. An easy six points for all you top-flighters next season then.

Congratulations SdR, you've done a tremendous job restoring a fine old club to prominence – and already got them further than you ever did Suth Seaxe Ealdormen, if I'm not mistaken? Really looking forward to taking on Hornville next season – this will be Vita Mortis' first competitive meeting with them in ten seasons.

Many thanks for the kind words too, everyone. To paraphrase something I recall Gawpus saying after Fourth Lanark's first championship win, it's surprising how pleased I feel about taking my imaginary bunch of players to this imaginary (?) title. As I noted in-game in response to Jon's comment, I'm really made up on their virtual behalf to have brought some of my original side all the way through to league champions 14 seasons later: Jarvis Rowson and Seymour Buckley were both in my starter squad, Gregor Crompton joined as the first youth product four days into our existence, Arnor Gunnlaugsson arrived from the academy within four weeks, and Brynjar Snorrarsson – who scored our winning goal at Banik yesterday – followed after only four months. They've formed a good deal of the backbone of my team every since, and as a quintet may never be better than they are now, so I'm delighted for them that they/we've made it the whole way together... as silly as it may sound.
