Not enough kudos given to OTFers in the Ultimate League top tier.

Etienne's Cardiff Dragons finished an excellent 3rd in the season just finished, and VA's Viking North Utsire now come up to join them. Great work both.

Meanwhile Lincolnshire Curly Coats have floundered in the first D2 season in the Golden League. Final game of the season this evening and the Curlies could easily manufacture a relegation. Then a mini-rebuild and try to consolidate.

                  Market Value: 5.53m
                  Bought for: 4.81m

Combine that with the first two:

Rönin 20/7 FWD with Long Ball
                  Market Value: 2.12m
                  Bought for: 0.21m

                  Gömez 31/16 MF with Koeman
                  Market Value (est.): 6.0m
                  Bought for: 4.78m

So effectively a combined discount of 3.85m.

Three doesn't prove a pattern, we need more. But we also have to watch for Gömez reaching a month "old" as he will be sold to reap tge profit and cover the tracks, sure as eggs is eggs. So the window is until about August 20th.

I don't know how others feel but I don't think we should fanny around. If he does many more at a discount before that date I'd be happy to submit something to Wayne.

Of course a radical strategy would be to confront the manager...
Şikeci is cheat in Turkish, actually it's match fixer and very appropriate for a Fenerbahçe supporter.

Our old friend Worldcunt12. We all know that he is going to flounce within a few weeks of the new season but the rate managers are resigning right now I'll be struggling to get the numbers up to 240 any time soon.

Ah. Well that happened because I clicked through VA's team in my Curly Coats' Favourite Teams, and thought I'd got to the top division.

Kudos both of you anyway, pretty impressive to get that high whichever way you look at it. And the Utsirens touched Valhalla.

Our Division 1a encounter was a clash of two teams looking to move up rather than down from the mid-table zone in the persona of Viking South Utsira and Sadnecessary.
It was a match of incongruities. Sadnecessary held nearly two thirds of the first half possession, but it was The Blood Eagles who had the only chance of the period. The visitors did have an attempt chalked off before the interval and were not to be denied when they had the ball in the goal again on 51 minutes.
Following this strike Sadnecessary upped their possession to closer to 50% and therefore it makes sense that Viking began to rain shots on their goal! This pressure eventually told in stoppage time when Sadnecessary over-committed forward and were caught on the counter as Emilie Klovning rescued a point for Velvet Android’s side.
About the only mid-way thing was the result, and it effect on the table. Both sides ended the day where they started it, which is fourth in VSU’s case.

Drakaina’s fifth league game pitted The Dragons against disturbing My Little Pony fanatics Pinkie Pie.
The Greeks had the better of the first half in terms of possession and were also clinical as their one chance of the period on 39 minutes was finish by Fionulla Mourne. Etienne’s side turned control of the ball into chances as Pinkie Pie tired after the break, which eventually resulted in a second for Alicia Keyshinhas on 81 minutes. The value of that strike was evident two minutes later when the hosts fired one in from range completely against the run of play.
That gave The Dragons fans a slightly nervous last few minutes, but ultimately a rewarding one. Oddly though, despite starting the day top, Drakaina found themselves deposed as leaders as the end of it. There was clearly something odd in the Division 4i water on Tuesday as Pinkie Pie also climbed off the bottom despite losing! Bizarre...

Csiki Girls continued their promotion push as they travelled to struggling Crazy Lady.
The Csiki’s who struck first in this one, Saoirse McInns heading ad hoc’s side ahead on 18 minutes. The lead only lasted for nine minutes though, another header drawing the hosts level. Thereafter it was nip-and-tuck with the next goal likely to win the game. It arrived on 84 minutes, but it went to Crazy Lady. This strike was possibly helped by Csiki Girls playing the last twenty-odd minutes of the game without a key midfielder in Carlota Igreja, who had suffered a 15-day injury.
The defeat sees Csiki Girls slide down to fourth in the Division 4i table, two points behind the leaders and one out of the play-offs but also only one point ahead of the drop zone.

It has been a good start to the season so far for Erbil but would they retain that run at Gehenna Hot Pants?
The hosts obviously wanted to stop it and get their own campaign going, and it was they who hit the front on 25 minutes. Erbil fought hard, but were finding it difficult to make ground in the game and were hit with a second with 15 minutes to play.
That killed the game as a contest, Gehenna taking the three points. However despite the loss, Erbil remain top of Division 5:16 thanks to both the advantage that Jdsx’s side had previously built and the sides who began the day second and third taking points off each other with a draw.

The omens for goals were not good when LNWR Locomotive hosted Throop Ladies.
That wasn’t The Steamers fault but more an acknowledgement of opponent’s Throop, whose opening four games had produced just one goal for and none against (one 1-0 win and three 0-0 draws). It was easy to see why as the visitors set up in a very conservative 5-4-1 formaiton.
The Steamers attempted to take the game to their opponents, but always had to be wary of leaving the back door open as one goal against was likely to be unrecoverable. There were certainly scares for Locomotive boss Viktor Boskovic, but when a goal did finally go in on 81 minutes he was the boss celebrating as Narcisa Mocãnitã’s long range blast sailed prettily into the top corner of the Throop n net. It was just defender Mocãnitã’s second ever goal in Steamers colours.
No further addition was added or indeed ever likely as LNWR stayed second in Division 5:17.

Coxy Ladies Wulpen had played Merched Efo Peli a number of times in recent seasons, with The Waders comfortably holding the upper hand in their most recent meetings.
However for this match it was visitors Efo Peli who came in as the big dogs, as they sat top of the Division 5:18 standings. Janik’s side sought to undo that, and thought they had made a significant breakthrough on 58 minutes only for Charlotte Beyen’s effort to be disallowed.
With The Waders also clearly fighting the officials as well as strong opponents there was little hope of a breakthrough, particularly as there were just two chances in the entire match (both for Wulpen). The draw left Coxy Ladies still fourth in the table, slightly closer on points to the drop zone that the promotion picture.

A break was what Ullapool Northern Star needed against The Sibley Squad.
And that was what Delicatemoth’s side got after a Sibley defender ‘stumbled’ and left Astrid Sehlstedt free to head in a third minute corner. The lead was relatively short lived, Sibley equalising after 18 minutes, but it had done its job and the match remained tight. There was a brief scare when the visitors had the ball in goal on 49 minutes but this was disallowed by Constance Paine and the match drifted to a conclusion which saw both sides pick up a point.
That point wasn’t quite enough to lift Northern Star from the foot of the Division 5:19 table, but it does leave them level on points with the side above, albeit now five from safety.

There was a lead to consolidate or possibly build on for Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC when they visited Spandex FC.
SeanoftheShed’s side took a step towards doing exactly that when Jennifer Willockx gave them the lead on 16 minutes as she rose above the crowd to head home Dewi Daffa’s cross. The Sea Spirits couldn’t find the second goal to kill the match off though and they paid for that when Spandex scored a very similar goal to the opener on 79 minutes.
That was all the scoring as Kanjeng dropped key points for the first time for a while. Despite that they remain top of Division 5:21, with a two point advantage on second.

Zeugma Dostluk Spor search for a first three-point haul of the season continued against K2O3.
The visitors, who appear to bare a chemical formula for a name (and an esoteric and rather unstable one at that), were the first to have the ball in the net but their 29th minute effort was disallowed. Antepli Ejderha’s side built on this and took the lead themselves after 57 minutes when young midifelder Liv Oxenstierna blasted home spectacularly from distance.
That put Zeugma on course for the first win, particularly with Potassium Sesquioxide (to write it out in full) not having registered a shot up to the 69th minute. However at that stage they were given a free-kick in range, and in line with previous Zeugma matches in it went.
And so it was a fourth draw from five Division 5:27 games. It leaves Zeugma sixth in the table, four points from safety.

It has been a rather disappointing season to date for Dublin City WFC. Could Mortal Joe’s girls turn that around against a high-flying Harley Quinns side?
The first twenty minutes were far from promising as Quinns struck twice. Those were both counters as Dublin had more of the ball but fewer chances. The hosts couldn’t afford to fall further behind so were grateful for George Buske’s whistle disallowing a third Quinns goal just after the break, but it proved a temporary reprieve as the visitors did go three ahead on 79 minutes.
Veronica Kåmark netted a consolation goal for The Dubs on 88 minutes, only for the hosts to even be denied a last say due to an injury-time fourth for Quinns.
A positive result for Dublin would have benefitted Menywod Maeshafn, as the Quinns were their nearest rivals in the table, albeit ones five points back. Given that gap though just picking up points is enough for the Welsh side at the moment, the latest chance of doing so being a home game against Fossa Delle Leonesse.
That proved unexpectedly tricky as the visitors nicked the lead against the run-of-play midway through the first half and then proved resolute and difficult to break down. Maeshafn did get through once, Simone Kjellberg firing home from range after 51 minutes but that was it for IsThatcherDeadYet’s side.
Given the advantage at the top of the Division 5:29 tree, Maeshafn start perched on the summit though their lead has been cut to three points. Dublin, by contrast, are seventh with one point to their name and five points adrift of safety.

A three match winless streak meant that victory was essential for Sockford Emollient when Newcastle United F.C. visited Framleyshire on Tuesday.
The Gatorsharks dominated possession in the first half, but were hit by a sucker punch after 15 minutes as Newcastle’s only shot of the period saw them edge in front. No matter, Foxy265 told his team at the interval, keep playing like this and it will come. Was this message from deep-seated belief or just hopefulness? Who knows, but it was proved accurate as first Alexia Batistuta levelled on 70 minutes in a scramble following a corner and then Toni Duggan sniped in from distance after 76 minutes to give Emollient the win.
The three points moves Sockford up a place to third in Division 6:40, leapfrogging the Magpies. They are now three points adrift of the play-off spot.

A mid-table encounter was the order of the day when Invisible Ladies visited Haydock Ladies.
The first half was pretty even, Haydock having a slight edge on possession but The See-Throughs making two of the three chances in the period. They also, crucially, were the only side to score, Rachel Crouch firing home after 25 minutes.
Things got even better for Pebblethefish’s charges when Aileen Shuttlewood made it two after 69 minutes. All that was needed was to hold out until full-time, but that was in question when Haydock pulled one back with 84 on the clock and two points were thrown away when the hosts struck again in stoppage time.
Drawing didn’t cost Invisible any places in the Division 6:41 table, they remain fourth, but they are now five points adrift of the play-off spot.

Riverbankers FC, bottom, zero points to their name away at MSV Duisburg Damen, top, positive 100% record. A foregone conclusions, right?
Er, well, yes. As per normal SouthdownRebel’s Bankies were overrun in midfield (only 30% possession in the first half) and the overworked defence did a sterling job restricting the opponents to single figures worth of chances. However Duisburg’s confidence in front of goal led to sharp finishing. It was two at the break and four at full-time as Riverbankers were overwhelmed.
Witches of Chiswick were handed a good opportunity to get their promotion push going when they visited strugglers Perfect Ladies.
Bewitched boss Wiblflibl may have been somewhat concerned his side were not going to take advantage of the situation after a first half that was very even-steven. However a bit of shouting at the interval pulled a more dynamic performance out of Chiswick after the interval, and with it two deserved goals from Khal Eesi on 54 minutes and Lyanna Mormont on 81. Defender Eesi’s effort, header, was her first in Witches colours following her move to the club just prior to the start of Season 50.
With the two sides directly above in second and third places meeting, Solent Sirens trip to Tagalog Ladys was a chance for Andrew7610’s side to get right into the race for the play-off spot.
That sort of thing motivates Simone de Beauvoir to big efforts, and she moreorless won this game on her own in the first quarter. Firstly, after 10 minutes, de Beauvoir calmly picked out the top corner of the Tagalog net with a direct free kick and then midway through the first half she rose to home from a corner.
Tagalog were very much on the back foot in the opening half, but they improved after the break and pulled one back late on (87 minutes). That gave the Sirens faithful a few fretful moments to endure, but ultimately it was too little too late to prevent Solent’s win. It was one that lifted them to third in the Division 6:42 table, a point out of the play-off place. Chiswick are two points worse off in fifth, with Riverbankers propping up the table with nothing to their name to date.

Coxy Ladies Wulpen were attempting to bridge the gap to Division 1 when they took on Sadnecessary.
The disparity between the two teams was apparent in the first half hour of the opening leg at the Curlew’s Nest as Sadnecessary scored twice to take a commanding position in the tie. The Waders didn’t manage so much as a shot for nearly an hour, so it was a surprise when their first opportunity on 57 minutes reduced arrears, Laetitia Vandenbergh coolly finishing off a breakaway move.
Could Coxy Ladies get something from the game? Well, not if Alicia Leclercq mouths her way to a second yellow card of the day on 78 minutes. Down to 10, The Waders were really struggling and conceded a third that basically wrapped the tie up in stoppage time.
Wulpen went into the return needing not only to win, but to do so whilst scoring an implausible three goals. And whilst they never looked likely to achieve that, they did put up a good fight. Indeed they arguably shaded the game against their higher status opponents, with two of the three main statistically categories in Coxy Ladies favour. That included the only really important one, goals, Aurelie Wostijn’s header on the stroke of half-time being the only one on the day.
So an upbeat finish to an overall disappointing campaign as The Waders bowed out in the 3rd ound for the fourth successive season.

Csiki Girls were also aiming high in taking on Division 1 opponents Johnstone Cougars.
They made a good fist of it during the opening leg at A kertem, holding over 50% possession and denying their visitors even a sniff of goal. All that was missing was converting one of their three chances, but even with a 0-0 that leaves The Csiki’s in a decent position for the return leg.
An away goal would make The Csiki’s situation even better, and ad hoc’s side went after it hard in the opening minutes of the second match. Mirja Hinz thought she had it as early as the third minute only to have her celebrations rudely interrupted by Tony Nolan. There was no such curtailment five minutes later though when Floriane Smet latched on to a through ball and rattled gleefully home.
That left the hosts needing to score twice, which meant they also had to create some chances for the first time in the tie. This was eventually achieved in the second-half, but the two openings fashioned was not nearly enough as Csiki Girls held on so comfortably that one would have thought they were the side plying it’s trade three tiers higher and not the Cougars.
Having despatched a second-tier side, and made a statement of intent, Csiki Girls’ next task is taking on one from the third step, Division 2d side Jålejentene. The first leg sees The Csiki’s on the road.

An all-fifth tier encounter pitted Drakaina against fellow Division 4 side Anonymous.
The first match was at Delphi, The Dragons opening the scoring 20 minutes in when Grace Winter blasted home from range. That remained the score to half-time, and indeed to full-time despite Drakaina losing star defender Roseanne Beattie to a 14-day injury just after half-an-hour. Given that the 31 minutes Beattie did play was enough to earn her man-of-the-match honours, one wonders how much better her side could have done if she had lasted the 90. Although it’s hard to improve on defensive perfection, which is what was achieved.
A win and clean sheet in the home leg puts a side in an enviable position for the return. The Dragons played it pitch-perfectly, defending solidly to prevent Anonymous making many chances at all and then catching their hosts on the counter on 52 minutes, Fionulla Mourne’s headed effort effectively ending the tie as a contest.
Next up for Etienne’s girls is two games against [OFFS] Provokator FC of Division 6:56. Why is this pillock still in the competition?!? Time for The Dragons to remove with prejudice.

Another tie between sides from the same tier pitted Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC against fellow Division 5 outfit Harley Quinns.
The Sea Spirits looked up for this one, running the first half against strangely listless opponents. Rahma Ikmal opened the scoring after 17 minutes with a long range shot, an advantage that was doubled in exactly double the time, Sri Malahayati heading in a second after 34 minutes.
Sadly Kanjeng veered off-pattern and declined to score in the 51st, 68th and 85th minutes, adding just one more to their total when Tyan Borot burst away in stoppage time to make it three. It all gives SeanoftheShed’s charges a very good chance of progress in the away return.
Again the home win-clean sheet combination made a second leg goal for Kanjeng worth around double the usual value, as it would increase Harley Quinns’ need from three to five. Jennifer Willockx thought she had it on 27 minutes but Hugh Cango disagreed. He did not dispute Cindy Prins’ effort five minutes later, though.
Actually that extra goal was not really needed as the three already in hand would have been more than comfortable against a side who didn’t manage a shot all tie! The Sea Spirits can probably expect a sterner test in Round 4 when they take on Primera Nacional of Division 4c.

The sole OTF side from Division 6 left alive, Solent Sirens were looking to repeat their shock from the previous round when they took on Division 3 outfit Victorious Secret.
The first leg was on the road for Solent, whose main ambition for the tie was to keep things close enough to give a chance on their return to the English South Coast. They mostly managed that, particularly in a first half where the hosts didn’t create a single opening. However it got slightly tougher going for Andrew7610’s side after the break as Secret made four openings and netted twice from them. That left Solent with a hill to climb; difficult but not impossible.
Given the away goals situation, a clean sheet was obviously essential in the return. But so also was scoring twice. This was a difficult balancing act, and it proved too tough an ask. They did put on a splendid rearguard action that kept Secret out until the last ten minutes, but without threatening to score themselves. Finally the South Coast side’s resistance was broken on 84 minutes, which sealed the tie.
Injury was added to insult in stoppage time as key Solent midfielder Angela Cruchaga picked up a 15-day injury. That was a sour note on which to end a decent Cup run.

Yep, great work Janik. Eventually you might get a Riverbankers win to summarise.

In the final round of the Golden League, Angmering Park just missed out on the playoffs. We did our bit, beating Bristow Spitfire 4-0, but unfortunately Under Armour Allstarz were able to win their final game to take second spot. Our strong finish to the season (four wins in five) does at least bode well for the next campaign.

Thirded, Janik. I'm glad you were able to bow out of the Cup with a win in the second leg, and I'd like to think Viking South Utsira softened Sadnecessary up for you with our 91st-min suckerpunch in our league encounter four days earlier. Best of luck to Csiki Girls, Drakaina and KRK as they move onwards flying the OTF flag.

Sits, as Etienne points out Viking North Utsire indeed had a cup of coffee in the Ultimate League top flight last season. I think that gave us the honour of being the first ever OTFers to make it all the way to an official league's top tier -- but with grim inevitability we found the final step up a major bridge too far (after only a single season at Division 1 level, when we unexpectedly won the title), and came straight back down again in 7th with a 1-5-8 record. All three sides relegated were cut adrift pretty early on, too, although we did at least look competitive up until the closing stretch -- when we lost our final four league matches (as well as going out of the UL Cup) to exit with rather a whimper in the end.
We just played our first game back in Div 1 an hour ago, where we will presumably have lost to former giants Partizan Belgretna, now on their way back toward the topmost tier after a long spell in the wilderness and who look the team to beat in our and Etienne's division this season. Frankly I'm looking forward to being back at a slightly less frightening level of competition this season, not to mention there's a lot more friendly and familiar faces among the opposition. As I noted in last week's PR, the topmost division is a strangely alien and silent place void of much real interaction.

There will be four OTFers in the Heineken top flight next season - Hambledon Legacy have been promoted as champions, our second consecutive division title. With a couple of other familiar faces in the league in RichardSP and Spoonaldo, it promises to be a cracking season next time up.

Now just an anxious wait to see if I've grabbed the TotM award for July - we won at home, the team in 2nd won away, so I really have no idea which way that will turn out.
