In case you feel like making things a little more interesting Wouter, United Underground have challenged IKK to a friendly the night before your semi-final – i.e. tomorrow night. I realise it's a roll of the dice, as your form could go down instead of up, but the offer's there right now!

I've sent out five other challenges though, so it may be we get booked up before you ever see the invitation – but I'm mentioning this here to confirm the request is for Saturday, in case you do see it and think we've stupidly challenged you to a game on Sunday when you're meant to be playing in the Vase.

Coincidence of the day: Sheffield United hosted Sheffield Wednesday in HLC15 tonight, just as they are doing in Real Division Two. Wednesday won 3-1.

But are both managers Turks? And friends since Year 5?

There was a time when hearing a fact like that would lead to someone doing The Outer Limits theme tune. Well, in my circles.

It would have been nice to push those 15s and 16s a bit higher, but it wouldn't happen. The biggest blow is that Clas Ahlund's DV never really recovered after a five-game injury absence earlier in the season. His drop in his skill level will hit us hard.

I don't think there'll be much transfer activity, although the midfield looks a little weak for the top flight and could do with a goalscorer. I'll be in the market for a new back-up goalkeeper, probably a veteran, unless the academy comes up with a gem. With Barreto injured, the retiring Miyosi had a surprise final outing in our last game. Kjeldaas was always there just to make up the numbers and will be released.

Some interesting goings-on in the top flight of The Human League. After picking up one point from their first three games, Monstrous Regiment have won seven on the bounce and are now 2nd, just a point behind Suffragette City. There are three points between 3rd and 8th. 9th-placed Girls Like Us are eight points further back, but have just spent 18m econ on two new players.

Talking of big money buys, I was casually browsing the transfer market (as you do) and noticed a 25/15 striker with two SQs for 68m. He/she will have gone by the time most of you wake up 3h 20m from now. But however much cash you have, isn't spending that much crazy? Or maybe Sel_ayan (Fenerbahçe Redux) is selling him from one of his surviving private franchises.

Most expensive of all is currently a 21/11 midfielder with free kicks, bulb and horse for a mere 89m.

Gotta be happy with that I suppose... was hoping that Scott Irons would DJ as well, but he's gone from an (estimated) skill of 6.4 to 7.4, so I'm hoping he'll DJ next year...

Just bought a 34/13 vanilla defender as well so...worth getting up early on a Sunday for!

Brilliant final day in the offing in my official league. Nothing is decided at the top or bottom of the table. Automatic promotion and the play-off is two from three, with all three sides capable of finishing in all three spots. Relegation is three from five, with nobody certain to drop. My own side, Radnik, are currently bottom but are only two points behind fourth and have the best goal difference of the bottom five; we have to win our final game, but if we do (and it is at home to the side directly above us) we would be pretty unlucky to go down as the way the fixtures are set it would take two of the three sides chasing promotion losing.

Is back-to-back promotion a possibility for Viking South Utsira? For sure it is, but to make it happen The Blood Eagles need points from games such as Tuesday’s visit to strugglers The Liver FC.
The first half was pretty even, with chances shared one each by the sides, though Liver’s sole opportunity was converted to give them a half-time lead. No respect. Disappointment gave way to calamity when the hosts doubled their advantage early in the second period. Life has a way of throwing everything at you if you wait around for so long, Viking bearing the whips and scorns of time until they pulled one back through Manuças Fudida on 79 minutes, and then drew level via the same player with 89 on the clock.
Velvet Android’s girls even had a brief chance to steal it when Liver’s Catarina Cardinal was shown a straight red card in stoppage time. The hosts saw referee Wanda Rinn as an oppressor for this and insisted she was quite wrong, despite seemingly obvious evidence to the contrary. Indeed the Free Catarina t-shirts were already printed and on sale around the ground by the time the final whistle was blown mere seconds later.
A draw was a decent result for The Blood Eagles, given the position they had been in after 50 minutes. The point gained actually drew them closer to the Division 2b play-off spot, as Van Helsings GLS suffered a surprise defeat.

With the sides occupying the two spots directly below Drakaina meeting, the pressure was on Etienne’s side to get a positive result from their trip to Cataluna Cats.
The Dragons got off to the perfect start when Laria Sietaridis crashed home from distance with just 4 minutes on the watch. However it was quickly apparent that this was highly unlikely to be enough as the game turned into an extremely open encounter with opportunities at both ends, the second goal of the game did duly arriving for The Cats in the last few minutes of the opening half.
Sometimes a decent first half is followed by quite a dull second period. Not here. In fact things got even livelier after the break, Grace Winter striking one of the many chances to put the Greeks back in front on 54 minutes. Despite the welter of openings Winter’s strike was looking increasingly like the winner until Cataluna drew level on 88 minutes. Gracie was not to be denied though, heading home Silvia Atum’s cross two minutes later to once again ensure she made the headlines.
How valuable was the win? Well, it means Drakaina reach the halfway point of Division 4h outside the drop zone in fifth place, two points clear of trouble.

Emiliano Zappata once put into words the concept of heroically going on the attack when against the odds. Coxy Ladies Wulpen took the modern Football approach of saying ‘bollocks to that’ and set themselves up to grind out a 0-0 draw at Tartan Tawties FC.
And it worked for Janik’s side, the hosts being restricted to a handful of chances all of which were seen off by goalkeeper Sarah Asselman. The Waders even had a couple of unexpected opportunities of their own, but neither was converted and they slunk away with what they came for.
It leaves Wulpen resolutely mid-table in Division 4i, sitting in fourth place, five points behind second and five points ahead of sixth.

Ugh. Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC, bottom and winless against Victorious Secret, top and undefeated and managed by a sexist prick to boot.
It went to form, so not one to dwell on, really. There was also an injury for SeanoftheShed’s side, Adèle Pailloux picking up a 9-day knock that might keep her out of the immediate return fixture between the sides next week.
It’s going to take a major turnaround in the second-half of the season for The Sea Spirits to survive in Division 4k, as they have reached halfway bottom of the table and nine points from safety.

LNWR Locomotive took on a Watergate Bay Surfers in what was a must-win game for The Steamers. That was because the side in fifth were playing the local zombie*, making Watergate, who sat four points ahead of Locomotive in fourth, the most realistic target for Viktor Boskovic’s charges to close on as they seek to climb out of the Division 5:16 drop zone.
LNWR took the lead on 20 minutes when Gayane Zakarian turned in Ragna Hofvander’s free-kick and looked the side most likely to add to that for the rest of the game. In fact they did exactly that, but it did take all of the rest of the match and then some, Karlo Perätalo’s clincher coming in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
A defeat would have left The Steamers six points adrift and in real trouble, but victory moved them to within one point of Watergate and safety.
                            * - as was. In fact the bottom-of-the-table side have gained a new manager this week, and an experienced and seemingly useful one at that. Arriving exactly at mid-season is at least fair on everyone else in this section.

Erbil are marching relentlessly towards promotion. The latest opponents to be casually bowled out of their path were the weirdly named FandaYona.
The visitors are both actively managed and a team with a sensible average age, but despite that this was brutal stuff. Jdsx’s girls’ were three to the good within 12 minutes as each of Tülin Besen, Sandra Brundin and Margaret McCan netted. The chances kept on coming, Erbil racking up double figures before half-time, but a fourth goal didn’t arrive until Besen’s second of the day on 58 minutes.
A few minutes after that McCan made it five, with her second on her debut in senior Football. Which was a pretty impressive showing all told. Brundin wasn’t going to be left out of all this brace scoring and also struck a personal second on 82 minutes to round out the afternoon.
Erbil have reached the halfway stage of Division 6:4 with a perfect seven from seven record. They have scored 33 and only conceded once. There are a fair few 100% records in Division 6, but none of them can match Erbil’s +32 goal difference. And neither can second-placed side in 6:4, Djuped BK, who are three points and crucially -12 GD back.

It was the biggie in Division 6:39, the first of two straight matches between Sockford Emollient and Chili Babes that will surely decide the destiny of the title.
This meeting took place on the road for The Gatorsharks. They didn’t seem discombobulated by that however, tearing into their opponents from the get go, Terese Bjerkefors racing clear to open the scoring after just 4 minutes. Alexia Batistuta headed home a corner to make it two with 34 on the clock, which was also the half-time score and a merited one for Foxy265’s side given the 6-1 imbalance in their favour in terms of chances.
When Lise True headed a third on 51 minutes any score seemed possible. However a carnivore must take time to digest after gulping down a big meal, and a Gatorshark counts as a carnivore squared so we will forgive giving away a sloppy goal back soon after.
That was the only hope given to the terrified hosts, who must now dip their toes into the Gatorsharks pool next week with blood in the water, Sockford having climbed above their opponents to take the lead spot in Division 6:39 at the halfway stage.

                            Comment

The final match of the opening half pitched Invisible Ladies against struggling Perfect Ladies.
The visitors to The San Seethrough may have had impeccable deportment, but it was The See-Throughs whose Football impressed as the dominated the opening half, building a substantial lead via strikes from Chelsea Paul on 22 and 26 minutes and Jennie Williamson after 39. However they didn’t go in three to the good as Perfect Ladies pulled one back on the stroke of half-time with their only shot of the half, and indeed match. That was verging on the uncouth.
No matter, Pebblethefish’s side just continued their relentless attacking after the break, Paul completing her hattrick on the hour mark, Charlene Carr rolling home a penalty on 66, Elly Björkgren firing home the sixth three minutes later and Rachel Crouch completing the rout with nine to play.
There is clearly a lot of work for the Perfect boss (yes, they are actively managed) to do before they can match a class outfit like The See-Throughs, who sit third in Division 6:41 at the halfway point, but are five points adrift of second spot.

Solent Sirens were never likely to get a serious workout at bottom-of-the-table zombies Riverwood Town FC.
There were motions to go through though, and so The Sirens did. Petra Ulander headed the first on 7 minutes, Evelyn Högardh also rose to double the advantage five minutes later and Geovana Abbiati made it three with 26 on the clock. Marlene Stieglecker added two more prior to the interval, but one name was missing from the scoresheet until the match was nearly into stoppage time, which was when leading active goalscorer Simone de Beauvoir finally registered for Andrew7610’s side.
Witches of Chiswick’s meeting with Zenit Odenplan Ladies in the same section was an opportunity to put some distance between The Bewitched and the relegation zone, near which Wiblflibl’s side had been hovering frightfully close.
Chiswick appeared to be going about it in the right way, only to be hit by a sucker punch opener from Odenplan after 15 minutes. However The Bewitched were not about to be blown off course and were quickly level through Sarah Altstrand’s direct free-kick. Chiswick continued to make the running, only for another rare Odenplan shot to put them ahead again after 39 minutes. This time the wait was slightly longer, six minutes, and the scorer of the equaliser different, Mari Kurisawa, but the effect was the same – the sides were level at the interval.
The Witches problem in the opening half was that young ‘keeper Miyuki Kurihawa was having a bit of a shocker, turning in a grade 2 performance. She is getting games with Ellie Ingram’s retirement imminent, but it is going to take a long time before Kurihawa performs similarly to the club legend. Given that two out of every three shots were going in, the key for The Bewitched was to prevent the opposition shooting. They managed this after the break, and did so without going unduly defensive themselves as they put six shots on the Zenit net at the other end. The Field Lane crowd just needed one to count, Terumi Ota obliging on 76 minutes.
Solent’s win kept them second in the Division 6:42 table, five points shy of the leaders. The Sirens advantage over third place actually grew to three points, and that was courtesy of the Witches as they were overturning Solent’s nearest rivals. It wasn’t enough to lift Chiswick up any places, but it did put them five points clear of sixth.

Top against bottom was the order of the day when Menywod Maeshafn took on Scorpions.
This had looked like being a near walkover for IsThatcherDeadYet’s girls, but then just five days prior to the match Scorpions gained an active manager which made it a trickier affair for Maeshafn. There was a certain nervousness sweeping around the Maeshafn stadium when Scorpions opened the scoring after 5 minutes, a feeling that wasn’t fully dissipated by Monalisa Corleone 16th minute equaliser.
The mood calmed down when Tina Käck headed Maeshafn in front on the half hour and turned to comfortable celebration when Corleone also headed in on 34 to make it 3-1. Lisha Boye added a fourth minutes into the second half, at which point the home players decided ‘enough!’
There was good news for Maeshafn from elsewhere in Division 6:56 as the other three games all finished in draws. It leaves the Welsh side eight points clear of second-place at the halfway stage and looking a very good bet for the title and promotion.

The last match of what has been a stuttering opening half of the season for Dublin City Womens FC saw them welcome third-placed Aherla Ladies to Phoenix Park.
Mortal Joe’s side began the game just two points clear of the drop zone, but looked better than their higher-placed opponents from the get-go. Possession and chances skewed in the hosts favour, and significantly so, but it took a good long while for that to translate into a lead. However the moment arrived in the 76th minute, Veronica Kåmark the provider as she found the top corner of the Aherla net with a direct free-kick.
And what a difference a win makes! Rather than looking down to a drop zone only two points behind them, Dublin now find themselves gazing up at the Division 6:57 play-off place which is only three points distant. With form picking up, a good run in the second-half of the season could see that claimed...

One side who will be hoping for minimal change in the closing half is Csiki Girls, who came into their top-of-the-table clash with FC.Bayern Mädchen as Division 6:62 leaders.
Visitors Bayern had the lion’s share of possession, but without any sign of a cutting edge as Csiki’s ‘keeper Emma Laude enjoyed a completely quiet 90 minutes. Meanwhile her opposite number was being asked more questions as the Csiki’s counter-attacking strategy produced a decent amount of chances. Enough, one would have thought, for one goal but frustratingly it just wouldn’t arrive.
But would there be a sting in the tail for Ad Hoc’s side? One was threatened when Saoirse McInns was shown her second yellow card of the afternoon with six minutes and stoppages still to play. However the Csiki’s put in a solid rearguard action for the remaining time to make sure they collected at least something from the day.
With the top two well clear, the positions remaining unchanged, Csiki Girls leading the way by two points with a significant gap back to third.

I suggested last week that girls de charneca climb to the summit of Division 7:27 might be completed in this round of matches. To do that, they first had to beat bottom of the table zombies Forest Mountain Falcons.
The visitors had proved reasonably tough to break down in their previous games as they had only shipped 13 goals in their previous six, despite losing all of them. However those matches were against fellow members of the ambulatory dead. Would things be different here, against a side inspired by Antepli Ejderha, especially with injury meaning Forest Mountain started the game with just 10 men? Er, yes, they would.
The opener arrived after only 6 minutes, and was also the opening goal of a players career as 17 year-old forward Ashley Heatley found the target. That started the rush, the score racing up to four by the 14th minute as Merdaleiro Áláfinesse (twice) and Asabe Fetele struck. Felicia Redman became the second 17 year-old to open her lifetime account in the match when she turned home on 25 minutes, closely followed by Heatley’s second.
It was seven by the interval with a second of the day for Fetele, which represented an increase of >50% on the goals Forest Mountain had conceded previously. The will to add to this was mostly absent for charneca after the break, despite the hosts having an eye-watering 84% of the ball. However they did raise themselves one more time to complete Áláfinesse hattrick on 79 minutes.
So an eight-goal haul. That is rare and unexpected, even in complete mismatches. The elevation of girls de charneca to the leadership of the section was less so, but with a defeat for the previous table-toppers it happened. They are highly unlikely to be shifted.

Ladies Cup Round 5. How far can the OTF sides go?

Viking South Utsira	2 - 0	Zak Diner
                                Quental 76'

Erbil have had a fantastic season so far, coming into this match on the back of 10 wins, 4 draws and no defeats. However St.Hallvards IF, from three tiers above, would prove to be too tough a challenge. Well, wouldn’t they?
As it happens Jdsx’s side showed no signs of being out-of-their-depth or overawed during the first half. In fact they could and probably should have been ahead, if Sandra Brundin had converted a 20th penalty. That was the start of a personal bad day for Brundin, but it wasn’t one shared by her teammates who plugged away and did hit the front eventually, when, with 70 minutes on the clock, Caroline Hinton fired home.
Brundin’s nightmare day continued with one and then a second yellow card, the only two shown in the match. She departed after 82 minutes, but her absence didn’t prove costly as Erbil held on for a famous win. Nexy up will be AS BABES DO VARDAS of Division 5:27, which sounds winnable.

In contrast to Erbil, the Cup has been a welcome distraction from league travails for Kanjeng Ratu Kidul WFC. They were looking to keep that going against a Krakens Bk outfit from one rung lower down the ladder.
Relieved of the pressure, The Sea Spirits were free to play. The first half was pretty even and ended all-square, but the second period belonged to SeanoftheShed’s side, with just the winning goal needed to top it off. That arrived on 83 minutes, Cindy Prins thumping home from distance. It was enough to edge a tight match of few other incidents.
Kanjeng’s reward is to progress to meeting another side from the tier below, Triestina of Division 5:28.

It was an all-Division 4 affair for Drakaina as they took on Jitex BK.
And it produced a pretty even encounter. Jitex shaded the first half on chances, but possession was 50/50 or as near as dammit, with the half ending scoreless. The same pattern of play was in evidence after the break, but with Jitex netting a direct free-kick halfway through. Trouble for The Dragons? No, they were level just three minutes later when Sandrine Petit fired in from distance.
With extra-time basically chanceless, the match would be decided on penalties. Jitex were taking first and sat 4-3 ahead (Drakaina scorers Silvia Atum, Alicia Keyshinhas and Roseanne Beattie) when Laria Sietaridis stepped up. However her shot was beaten away, leaving Etienne’s side on the verge of elimination... until Anastasia Shkolnikova second-guessed her opponent, stood tall and caught the straight-down-the-middle shot that would have won it. Grace Winter netted the next kick to level up and take it to sudden death, and Shkolnikova struck again immediately as her presence caused Jitex to shoot wide. Now it was the Greeks chance to win it, and in contrast to Jitex Fionulla Mourne obliged.
Round 6 pits Drakaina against Kizomba Luanda, who are currently in Division 3e.

Our final match in this round is Viking South Utsira’s encounter with Division 4 side Zak Diner.
Diner’s tactics for making up the two tier gap appeared to be ‘if it moves, kick it’. This saw them gather a string of yellow cards, and, ironically, the one serious injury of the day. They also had a goal disallowed (by the player who later got hurt) and generally wound referee Constance Paine up. She was probably secretly smiling when karma struck on 76 minutes, in the form of a Lurdes Quental direct free-kick.
The Blood Eagles needed a second to be sure, something Emilie Klovning provided 10 minutes later with a long range effort. That was more than enough to see Velvet Android’s charges through to a Round 6 meeting with G---'s FC of Division 2a, i.e. a cross-tier encounter.

Another great round up Janik, it's a Guzman from us. Good luck to all the OTFers in the cup, after the last round it seems like these are also winnable ties.

MLX assistants to the forum please - we have a team identity problem with Toco Toucans I'd appreciate your opinions on. Thanks

Is this Dazcreed trying to change the team name, as the branding would suggest. Not surprising. Queenslander.

With apologies to any OTFers from Queensland.

What is it with the bl**dy Youth Academy?? My OTF team (Four Candles) has been shovelling money in at 300,000 a week for ages now, and produced virtually nothing of any use for months (actually it's at 4-and-a-half stars at present due to a slight money supply issue, but that's another story). So once the window opened yesterday, and it had been 29 days since my previous youth (he was the only half-decent one for 3 months), I was looking forward to finally getting a decent sellable youth today. So what did I get? An 18/4 vanilla with the medicine bag of fragility! So that's one decent youth (worth maybe 1 million econs) in about 4 million econs worth of expenditure!!
I would just reduce my weekly input to 50,000, but, conversely, my Xpert ladies team (Erbil) has had no less than 7 youth academy prospects between mid-December and early January... 2 of which were no good, but 5 decent prospects in about 3 weeks...! I've sold 2 and kept 3 for developing as a good cup run means they should all get to a decent DV by the end of the season....
                                          Rant over....

IIRC putting money in the youth academy just affects the distribution of skill bars of youths but their age is not affected. So you might get more five bar players than a 150k academy, but they could easily be aged 19 or 20. Meanwhile the 150k academy happy comes up with a 16/4.

There are a couple of graphs explaining distribution of talent (http://img.xperteleven.com/misc/talentacademy4.jpg and http://img.xperteleven.com/misc/talentacademy17.jpg) from this page https://www.xperteleven.com/rules.aspx?RuleID=28, but I think it comes down to luck! Unfortunately!

The new season is up and running in the OTF, Guzman to Etienne there.

                                                  As a non-Queenslander (and non-Australian), seconded.

Meanwhile, I'm not sure what to do with the MLX Plate. Neither semi-final went ahead - one manager has since resigned, which makes one semi-final easy enough, but neither of the other teams is responding and I can't figure out which one, if not both, is the guilty party. I'm tempted to rule the tournament void. Or award it to myself for taking the time to deal with these people.

EDIT: Toucans manager has accepted a compromise offer to take over at another vacant team, so the Toucans are safe for now. The MLX Plate has officially been declared null and void for this season.
