That rarest of beasts, a GAA Special Congress, today approved radical changes to the All-Ireland hurling championship - the Munster championship will now be a five-team round-robin system, as will the Leinster championship (Galway, Kilkenny, Dublin, Wexford and Offaly). The provincial winners will get to the semi-finals, with second and third in the quarter-finals (unless the latter are beaten by a Tier 2 county). Fourth have no further games, while fifth face a play-off against Tier 2 teams. That Tier 2 (Antrim, Carlow, Kerry, Laois, Meath and Westmeath) will contest promotion to the main competition, while finalists enter preliminary QFs:
