Brexit Means: Leaving Single Market, Customs Union European Court of Justice

One of the reasons that Britain’s democracy has been such a success for so many years is that the strength of our identity as one nation, the respect we show to one another as fellow citizens, and the importance we attach to our institutions means that when a vote has been held we all respect the result. The victors have the responsibility to act magnanimously. The losers have the responsibility to respect the legitimacy of the result. And the country comes together.

And that is what we are seeing today. The overwhelming majority of people – however they voted – say we need to get on and make Brexit happen. Business isn’t calling to reverse the result, but planning to make a success of it. And the House of Commons has voted overwhelmingly for us to get on with it too.

So the country is coming together. Now we need to put an end to the division and the language associated with it – Leaver and Remainer and all the accompanying insults – and unite to make a success of Brexit and build a truly Global Britain.
I'd love to know what goes on inside the bubble these cunts live in.

She got through it without making our petrol go up, so I'm calling that speech a triumph.

Actually, she's boosted the pound by saying Parliament will vote on the final deal. How great must a Tory PM be when she says "It won't be up to me" and the markets go "Great!".

The vote could be interesting. Going to be plenty of broken promises in the deal, and tons to oppose.

It's just a pity there aren't enough of them in either house who will stand up for the right deal.
The Lords has plenty. The nearest thing Clegg has to a legacy is that he got Cameron to agree to loads more Lib Dem peers.

In the Commons, the Labour Lexiters will be against the Cameron deal, as will the luke-warm Remainers like Corbyn himself. The racists-publicity seekers like Stuart and Hoey should be the only problem.

I can't see any deal satisfying the Tory Leavers. The Remainers have serious leverage, provided they're prepared to tell the Government to fuck off, like Ken Clarke is.

                      "Parliament gets a vote"

Well, yes. It always did. It was the A50 notification that May is trying to keep away from the MPs.

"Give us what we want or we'll become a tax haven."

First off, you want to become a tax haven anyway. Second, Ireland and the Netherlands will want a say about that. And third, and I really don't think they've thought even this far - it's kind of hard being a tax haven when the EU can impose whatever it wants on you.

                        No.

While May has said the UK will seek control over immigration from the EU, it still remains to be seen what this will actually involve.

Speaking on Sky News the home secretary, Amber Rudd, said there were “different ways for delivering more control over immigration”.

You could always move to ireland hobbes. Cork isn't any colder than london and there are loads of tech jobs. It's different enough to be not what annoys you, (the council set up a roma cultural centre and are helping to build a mosque) but similar enough for you to be able to function instantly. Your qualifications and experience would be completely transferrable

And you could easily commute from somewhere with virtually no light pollution, tempered by a bit more cloud. The only real problem is dealing with the local belief that cork is a world city of 200,000 people. That and the hobbeslet would pick up a very strong local accent almost instantly that would fade over time.

                            What does the hobbesette do?

we would have the freedom to set the competitive tax rates and embrace the policies that would attract the world’s best companies and biggest investors to Britain. And – if we were excluded from accessing the single market – we would be free to change the basis of Britain’s economic model.
You can do that already. The reason you can only go so far down that road is lots of your core supporters would go apeshit if their hospital closed because you'd just slashed corporation tax.

Reckon they'll OK it because Brexit? I don't.

Poor man's CBI like the sound of that low tax, low regulation lark. But pretend they're impressed by May saying "free trade" a lot.

Allie Renison, head of Europe and trade policy at the Institute of Directors, has welcomed May’s speech. She said:

We welcome the level of detail provided in the PM’s speech and her commitment to providing certainty wherever possible, which is absolutely vital for business if they are to navigate and make the best of Brexit. Whatever the shape of the final trade deal, a smooth and orderly departure is in the whole country’s interests, so businesses will support the commitment to a phased process of implementation. While we do not expect a running commentary, firms hope to get periodic updates to maintain confidence as we make our way towards the exit.

We now know that we will be leaving the single market, and while there will be firms who regret this, they will at least be able to plan on that basis. Business leaders will be heartened by the prime minister’s strong argument for the value of free trade, an argument currently being made by all too few global leaders.

Oh man. This is priceless. From that group set up by Gove.

Theresa May’s announcement that the UK will no longer be a member of the EU’s single market provides certainty to both the British people and businesses. The public voted to take back control of our laws, borders, money and trade, and it is right that the Prime Minister is taking the necessary steps to achieve this. It will also enable businesses to start planning their future operations outside the EU. Politicians who insist on muddying the waters by trying to keep the UK inside the EU’s single market are only adding to business uncertainty.
The rules we have now are pretty fucking far from being uncertain, on account of them existing.

I'm not saying that Cork has notions, but it is twinned with Shanghai and San francisco (Well it is basically a bunch of hills beside a massive natural harbour) and cologne, (erm, global pharmaceutical center? Gothic cathedral?) but also slightly less preposterously, Coventry, rennes, and Swansea, which was on the other end of the ferry.

If you moved to the west of cork city MM you'd be a very short distance from the Cork Kerry Mountains, which contains most of our high peaks.

Such is the global status of Swansea, it's serious considered merging with Neath-Port Talbot to create a more viable council area.

Starmer apparently is claiming May isn't doing "hard Brexit", but a half and half Brexit. I have no idea what his tactics and strategy are.
