    According to the charming Mr Banks.

    "It's confirmed, Theresa May has betrayed the country and the 17.4 million Leave voters.

    "This traitorous, lily-livered embarrassment of a prime minister has just overseen the biggest sell-out of this country since 'Paedo Ted' signed us up to the European project in 1973.

    "Full regulatory alignment with the Internal Market and Customs Union? We may as well just bend over and allow the European Union to have its way with us for years to come.

    "Pledging to honour financial commitments beyond 2020? Brussels would have been lucky had we agreed to honour them up until March 2019!

    "Under Theresa May, we are leaving the European Union in name only. If anyone in the Conservative Party has any integrity or sense of duty left, we call on them now to save Brexit by triggering a leadership contest.

    "Tory backbenchers, get writing to the 1922 Committee and help save your country. She has got to go
    You're going to have to get Nigel Lawson and pals back in the Commons then.

          "Bend over" - curious choice of phrase. Maybe Banks can give it some thought when he's in jail, as he ought to be.

              It appears the only piece of British territory that would be completely outside both the SM and CU on D-Day would be Gibraltar:

                  Extraordinary achievement by @theresa_may today. Against all odds a deal delivered that confirms she is probably the only person in Britain able to deliver a good & clean Brexit

                    EU being very clever here. Using the UK gov intransigence to kick the can down the road for as long as possible. Sounds like this transition period is not really exiting the EU either.

                    They are essentially allowing time for Brexit fatigue to set in in the UK, and for enough OAPs to die.

                    EU like a patient parent waiting for its teenage child to finish whatever phase it is going through.

                      Well, it is in the sense of no votes, ECJ judges etc. But it's more like EEA membership than being fully out.

                        Indeed. UK, would, I guess, still be EU compliant. So rejoining would be a piece of piss (provided the EU members don't tell them to take a hike).

                            Seems like it. From Tusk:
                            As you know, the UK has asked for a transition of about two years, while remaining part of the Single Market and Customs Union. And we will be ready to discuss this, but naturally, we have our conditions. I propose that during this period, the UK will respect:
                            the whole of EU law, including new law;
                            • it will respect budgetary commitments;
                            • it will respect judicial oversight;
                            • and of course, all the related obligations.

                                        Equivalent laws to the single market. Of which freedom of movement is a central tenet. EU citizens able to take cases to the ECJ to uphold their rights. I would say that is a 'no', then.

                                              Yeah. And I liked the bit where he said that it was only Northern Ireland that would converge with the EU.

                                              - Mr Raab, how much isn't going to apply in the rest of the UK?

                                                    Peter Geoghegan thinks no deal is now more likely. I’d say that’s half likely, seeing as she’ll be hemmed into an EEA style deal if she keeps to the Irish bind in Phase 1. Easier for the Brexit Tory types to smash it (which might well leave the NI in a de facto customs union/single market while GB kills itself).
