Thomas Frank does this sort of "Trump really cares about trade" stuff too. Trump's all over the place, and never did anything in business to suggest he cares about it. Trade for Trump is an extension of racism.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-po...mpression=true"I think he was generally appreciative - he spent time and he wanted to see what I meant when I say the way it meanders.
"I took him down to the bridge [at the border] and showed him how it literally moved 10 fields back away from the road and then back down to the road again and how incredibly difficult to say exactly where that border is in places.
"I talked in more detail about the length - 500kms - of the border.

Rees-Mogg, master of irony:Jacob Rees-Mogg, the head of the Eurosceptic European Research Group of Tory MPs, dismissed the idea of tying the customs union to a confidence vote in Mrs May. “I try to avoid calling on the government to do something that is idiotic,” he said.

Interesting story on the front of the London Times about how it would seem that what I thought was a plan to allow NI be the part of the UK to stay within the EU seems to have been a bit of an oversight, and that the EU seems to have a problem with their backstop. Tbh I thought that this is what the border in the Irish sea was supposed to deal with. If there's a real problem with this, The EU is going to have to find a way for this to work, with the changes coming out of the UK's end. Either they're going to have to demand a much higher border in the Irish sea, or insist that the UK stays in EFTA. Neither is going to work very well with a UK govt who can't bring themselves to admit that they've already agreed to so much on the topic.

The FT outlines the parliamentary timetable - article appears to be open access, but maybe that's because I haven't used up my monthly quota:

Well, a little from column A....
Point is, he has been allowed to repeat this on television without challenge on several occasions.
