And access will have gotten considerably worse now that a section of I-85 closer to downtown has collapsed after a tire fire (literally) underneath one of its elevated sections.

It looks fucking stupid, and I can't see the (white) ball when it goes into that area.

*I probably missed it last time, as they played in a covering of thick snow.
Yeah, that's the endzone when it's used for college football.

They've done a pretty good job of covering the white football lines. Not sure if they just couldn't cover the maroon and gold UofM markings very well so they decided not to, or if the U just wanted those to be shown to promote itself and remind everyone that the Gophers now have a proper stadium so please by Gophers football tickets.

That stadium is right next to where I will be attending a meeting next week. Unfortunately, neither MUFC or the Twins will be in town while I'm there and Wild playoff tickets will be way too expensive.

Atlanta's move to the new stadium is indeed pushed back a few games.

MLS front office insecurity department: Atlanta banned a guy for life for lighting smoke bomb in the parking lot on the march in. Having already used him in ads for the team. RBNY's supporters groups are now banned from tifos or signs or anything for the next 2 games after they made and displayed a very very small **** United sign (with the United Airlines logo after the incident) for the DC game.

Salaries as of 4/15 are out. The top 6 earners by guaranteed compensation, after a quick scroll, are Kaka, Michael Bradley, Villa, Pirlo, Giovinco, and Schweinsteiger ($5.4M). And LAFC's at $100Kish for their 2 signings so far. Toronto leads the payroll list at $22.478M; Houston's last at $5.02M, 200K behind Montreal and DC.

USL has posted their standards for their upcoming division 3, and is considering pro/rel between the two.

Drogba arrives in Phoenix on a 3 year deal, Frank Yallop departs a couple days later. We report, you decide.

The standard Chicharito to LAFC for god knows how much rumor is alive and well again.

MLS must be offering discount rates for international TV rights. It's coming to New Zealand this weekend, live games on a free, state-owned channel (and we only have 3 of those). You need a magnifying glass to find it though - it hasn't been promoted at all, even the TVNZ website doesn't acknowledge its existence.

I'm not getting my hopes up, on past experience they'll abandon coverage halfway through a game, because somebody pressed the wrong button and nobody at the network noticed or cared.

The USL would like to put a team somewhere in the Bay Area. There's one potential ownership group that would like to put a USL team in San Francisco itself somewhere, and another group that wants to put an NASL team in Oakland. The new D3 part of the USL is also on tour looking at potential markets, first up were Lexington KY and Knoxville.

Middlesbrough and someone in Germany are seriously looking into Cyle Larin.

Announced it may be but no one's falling over themselves to join the CPL yet. Only Hamilton and Winnipeg announced so far, with another four cities tentative. Apparently each of the CFL clubs have rights to a team if they choose.

TFC beat Seattle today, 1-0. In Seattle. Against a full-strength squad Without Giovinco and four other regular starters (Vasquez, Beitashour, Moor, Zavaleta). Using a formation they had never used before. Are we the best team in the league? Probably.

Interesting the Ti-cats want a soccer team. The Ti-cats owner is Bob Young, same guy who used to own the Carolina Railhawks (or whatever they're called now).

Hang on. The Caps beat a full strength Seattle 2–1with a list of injuries that would fill VGH, and a formation that we'd never used before (just like every week.) Are we the the best team in the league? Not even close.

We all know there's no such thing as best team in the league in MLS. Only equal-worst.

Damn, I'm start to sound like one of those snarky Eurosnobs I railed against for all the years I lived in DC.

It's still early. The best teams will emerge.

MLS is more like baseball where anyone can win any given game and nobody will do much better than .600.

But in baseball, the sample size is a lot larger so the p-value, if you will, for even small differences in wins can be significant. And the playoffs have best of seven game series. You don't have to be the absolute "best" team to win a World Series, but you have to be among the five or six best and have to sustain excellent play over several weeks, not just one evening.

MLS playoffs are utterly stupid. A mediocre team can go on a four game winning streak and be called 'champions.' Meaningless.

There's also the small matter of being top of the league (admittedly having played more games).
