Old Enough to Drink and Superdraft - MLS 2017

    Schedule's out tomorrow.

Atlanta's bringing in another young Argentine, this one from Velez Sarsfield.

Today's pleasantly insane rumors involve the CFU breaking from CONCACAF to be its own confederation, Jesse Marsch being transferred abroad to coach Red Bull Salzburg.

Ryan Hollingshead stopped to help out some people with a broken down car, and was hit by another car in doing so. Out for a while after neck surgery.

For the women, the She Believes Cup thing got sorted out, finally:
March 1- Talen Energy Stadium- Chester, Pa.

    USA vs. Germany FS1
    England vs. France

March 4 - Red Bull Arena- Harrison, N.J.

    USA vs. England FOX mothership
    France vs. Germany

March 7- RFK Stadium- Washington D.C.

    USA vs. France FS1
    Germany vs. England

Cosmos might play in Coney Island, might play at Columbia University in the soccer stadium named after their alumnus new owner.

And now that the Chargers are moving to LA, Taylor Twellman and ESPN itself are saying that they play at Stubhub while the new NFL stadium is being built in Inglewood.

AJ de la Garza traded to Houston for $175,00 of allocation money.

Allocation money amounts are now being released when trades are made, as of about 5 minuted before the draft started.

The T&T qualifier is likely to be in Denver or SLC, as it's right before the trip to the Azteca.

NASL and USL are about to have gunfights over a city again, this time San Diego. Demba Ba and Eden Hazard are supposed to be investors in an NASL expansion team; Keisuke Honda in a USL one.

Jonathan Spector to Orlando. They also tried to bring in Swiss international Johan Djorou, but couldn't work out the details.

        Chad Barrett to RSL.

Sebastien le Toux signs for 1 year with DCU. Also,, Bill Hamid should be back in time for Opening Day. Last year, he ripped his meniscus; this year, it got fully removed.

Minnesota signed a couple more people; Colorado officially got around to signing Alan Gordon,. and Atlanta brought in Tyrone Mears from Seattle for $50,000 of GAM.

Freddy Adu is on trial with Portland.

Also, the CCL has been destroyed and rebuilt into two separate halves. Every fall, there's going to be a 16 team knockout between the runnerup and losing finalists from the Caribbean championship, and 13 teams from Central America-the odd one being from Belize, two from everyone else.

The winner of that gets to play in the varsity tournament in the spring, joining the Caribbean championship winner, the 4 American, 4 Mexican, and 1 Canadian teams, and the champions of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama.

Which means if you were an MLS team which qualified for CL in summer 2016 you do not get to play until Feb 2018. Which is batshit crazy.

Someone, I think Garth Lagerwey, was quoted as saying that last years qualifiers and this year's qualifiers will be combined to make the 4 teams for 2018. Probably MLS Cup and Open Cup winners.

Brad Guzan to Atlanta in the summer is official.

Giles Barnes to Blackburn Rovers; David Horst to RSL.

Portland is buying Sebastian Blanco from San Lorenzo for about $5M. Leandron Gonzales Pires signs for Atlanta. I'm going to be very interested to hear what Sam and company have to say about MLS stripmining the Argentinian 1st division when the podcast resumes.

Orlando gets a whopping $650K in allocation money for Kevin Molino and a GK from Minnesota.

Montreal loses Lucas Ontivero to U de Chile.

Conor Casey is now a Rapids assistant coach.

It is. Was there a particularly smart marketing strategy, or is it 100% genuine interest in the game?

The Atlantan public's interest has been piqued by the rumoured arrival of a new two brother managerial team fresh from the East Midlands of England. But will the 20,000 floating voters stick around if the dream turns sour?

                  Edit: winky thing to imp.

We have two new entrants into the expansion race, the crappy USL team in Phoenix, and Indy Eleven. The league site actually put a bid submission tracker up, if you've nothing else to do with your Tuesday than hit F5 as their deadline approaches. So far, only San Diego and Tampa have handed over the paperwork officially.

Oguchi Onyewu signs with Philly; Conor Doyle drops a level, to Puerto Rico FC. Soony Saad reappears in Kansas City.

Seattle picks up a Swedish d-mid after his Chinese team had to cut him loose after the foreigner rule change.

Julian de Guzman has retired from playing and joined Ottawa's coaching staff.

Joey Saputo already wants to renovate his stadium and jack more boxes into it, plus adding wi-fi.

ASG might now be against Real Madrid; Barcelona having said no. But it will be at Soldier Field, and the MLS team will be managed by Chicago's head coach.

NWSL has a press conference Thursday to announce a TV deal. With A&E networks. Games probably on Lifetime.

Cosmos say they'll announce their full schedule and home stadium next week.

USL starts on March 25th this year.

LA has added a 3rd DP, French midfielder Roman Alesssandrini, lately of OM.

Blaz Perez departs, to Arabe Unido.

And we have 12 official bids for expansion: Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Nashville, San Diego, San Antonio, Cincinnati (with stadium plans of their own included), Indy, Detroit, Tampa, St. Louis, Phoenix, Detroit, and Sacramento.

But NOT containing the words "Sacramento Republic" anywhere in it. They had a news conference at which none of the team execs were there. And Meg Whitman is now an investor. So...????

                            Sweet!

This left me cautiously optimistic that Cincinnati and Tampa Bay, my two favorites in the group, could get it.

after 20 years of incompetence, shenanigans, bureaucracy, NIMBY's, and other evil crap, DC United stadium groundbreaking is February 27th. And it will be named Audi Field.

John Harkes got suddenly fired as head coach of Cincinnati.

Toronto brings in Spanish MF Victor Vasquez; NYCFC sign Rodney Wallace and Maxi Morales, Montreal an Argentine midfielder on loan from Temperley.

Zach Scott gets a testimonial from Seattle on March 1.

The A&E Network money flowing into the NWSL isn't going directly to the teams, but the minimum salary is taking a huge (comparative) leap.

Orlando sold out Opening Day at last.

Atlanta signed a TV deal with Fox Sports South; Columbus with Spectrum Sports a/k/a the former Time Warner Cable.

Best quote from Vazquez's Sun interview:

Which, you know, is exactly the image MLS is looking for.
