Archives on the Falklands and the Troubles have been mysteriously "misplaced":

They've been doing this all along. I mean it's what you have to do when you're an establishment of psychopaths trying to maintain a facade of fair play and due process. Every time the Irish govt, or some judicial inquiry asks for UK govt records, they've usually been lost in a fire.

More importantly, for the first time rumours have been put on paper from the state archives that Gerry Adams allegedly set up an IRA squad to be blown away by the security forces for political reasons, to repeat allegedly

Well that's always been there if you were reading between the lines. It has always been noted how those IRA members most likely to be opposed to any peace process wound up dead, and indeed the peace process could never have happened without Loughgall. The person making the claim against Adams in the papers is Father Dennis Faul, who was a chaplain in long kesh, and a classmate of one of the people shot at Loughgall. If he says that this is what people in the IRA and Long Kesh Believed, then that is what they believed.

yes, claimed that there were dodgy timers at The Miami Showband murders
Wikipedia says :
The UVF's plan was that the bomb would explode once the minibus had reached Newry, killing all on board. However, Martin Dillon alleged that the bomb was meant to go off in the Irish Republic.[ He suggested that had all gone according to plan, the loyalist extremists would have been able to clandestinely bomb the Republic of Ireland, yet claim that the band were republican bomb-smugglers carrying explosives on behalf of the IRA.[ They had hoped to embarrass the Government of Ireland, as well as to draw attention to its level of control of the borderThis may have resulted in the Irish authorities enforcing tighter controls over the border, thus restricting IRA operations.] Dillon opined that another reason the UVF decided to target the Miami Showband was because Irish nationalists held them in high regard; to attack the band was to strike the nationalists indirectly.
Stephen Travers heard the gunmen rummaging in the back of the minibus, where he kept his guitar. Concerned it might be damaged, he approached the two gunmen and told them to be careful. Asked whether he had anything valuable inside the case, Travers replied no. The gunman turned him round, punched him in the back and pushed him on the shoulder back into the line-up.
When the two gunmen closed the rear door, clumsy soldering on the clock used as a timer caused the device to explode prematurely, blowing the minibus apart and killing soldiers Harris Boyle (aged 22, a telephone wireman from Portadown) and Wesley Somerville (aged 34, a textile worker from Moygashel) instantly.Last edited by Nefertiti2; 29-12-2017, 20:24.

The only thing I can think of is that the British government must have thought that Charlie was behind the Brighton bombings and they wanted to get revenge. It would be a ridiculous idea, but nonetheless consistent the level of disconnect with reality typically displayed by the Tory party.

More likely that they wanted to kill a senior Irish politician to even up the Score. One of the big things driving the UK's policy towards the republic at the time was that they thought that we were dragging our heels when it came to cracking down on the IRA, largely because the troubles didn't really cross the border. That's supposed to be the thinking behind the Dublin Monaghan bombings, which the Irish Govt of the time almost completely refused to investigate. There were pretty pissed off that we'd refuse to extradite people on the grounds that our constitution wouldn't allow us extradite people who had committed political crimes, what with that whole neutrality thing running through our constitution.
They fundamentally misunderstood the overwhelming antipathy of the Irish state to the IRA though. Particularly after the republicans started shooting gardai back in the early seventies.
but ultimately the UK govt and establishment viewed Ireland as a piece of Africa that came loose and floated up. You have been hearing echoes of this over the last 18 months.

NI could have a Catholic majority by 2021 - that said, Brexit and the potential entry of Southern parties into the NI frame would seem more likely to influence the future constitutional status of the Six Counties:

When were you last in a RC church in NI? You dont see many adults under 50.
Nationalists are still below 42% in GEs (ie despite squeeze on AP cos of FPTP). This isnt really news yet, a UI is hardly imminent

In GEs its largely the other way round- DUP take AP votes as 'Fear of Themmuns' applies. Any big change needs Nats getting 50%+ in future GE- and for that they need not just 18 yo believers but almost the whole AP vote. A headcount of 1st communicants isnt enough
