It looks like being allowed to buy and smoke on the premises of established licensed vendors which are 1000ft away from schools and unrestricted 'gaming establishments' (big casinos). So, off-strip. Then after a year, non-selling spaces can apply, as long as they don't sell alcohol.

What has been the story with US bank lending since the bust? Have they been lashing out the money for home loans willy nilly again? Are they better provisioned for bad debts? because the Federal Govt's wildly dangerous pro-cyclical macro-economic policies are enough of a threat as things stand.

Which he has.
TAB, subprime lending is up, but nowhere near the levels it was at prior to the crash. And banks are better provisioned.
That does not in any way mean that they are immune from trouble, especially given the fact that this administration sees such prudential measures as the work of jackbooted thugs who are throttling free enterprise.

Nancy seems to think he committed perjury. Which is a pretty strong position given that it's coming from Nancy. I wonder if they're going to press it - Barr really has managed to piss a lot of people of with his bullshit.
As for the US economy - it's not in great shape. But it would be in much worse shape if Stephen Moore and Hermain Cain were making monetary policy, largely on Donald Trump's whims. I think they've both talked about QE and printing money after something like 9 years of consecutive quarters of growth...

For all of her faults, Pelosi is not, and never has been a lawyer.
There's an interesting (at least to me) question of whether impeaching Barr is worth the trouble.Last edited by ursus arctos; 02-05-2019, 22:02.

I think impeaching Barr is an interesting proxy for impeaching Trump. You don't have all the attendant baggage and expectation that comes with impeaching a President. Instead you point out that the guy who defended Trump did so through a bunch of lies, and through perjury, and possibly obstruction of justice. I guess the key question is how much Mueller stuff could they drag into a Barr impeachment - can they use that to publicise all of Trump's illegality?

Not really, but you can do your best to get at that through the investigative process of other committees with the willing co-operation of third parties like Deutsche Bank.
And you can cast the Administration's attempts to stonewall that process as being very much in line with Barr's own conduct, as well as that of the people he is defending.
And at no extra cost, you can throw a spanner into the works of the infernal DOJ machine that is trying to do crazy things like invalidate the entire ACA without the support of any of the career staff.Last edited by ursus arctos; 02-05-2019, 22:04.

I'm just assuming that all the Trumpy people have no principles at all, and despite having spent the last two years proclaiming how great it is to have an America First non-interventionist foreign policy, where there's no reason to go all over the place wasting American money and American lives on foreigners, that as soon as John Bolton gets his wars with Iran, North Korea and Venezuela they'll be fully on board with projection of US power abroad to bring enlightened right wing military dictatorships to ease the suffering of these poor, benighted nations.
