It looks like Kelly gave Trump a primer on what to say to the families but he still fucked it up because he could not get the empathy in Kelly's summary. It came out of his mouth as insulting bollocks because his brain just can't tune in to how to modify his speech to the needs of others. Tone deaf at a minimum; a psychological disorder quite possibly.

And if he's speaking to African-Americans, his default mode of racial condescension and white privilege callousness is bound to kick in, gold star family or no.

Regarding Kelly, I think he was put in a position of backing Trump or resigning, so he held his nose and flat-out lied on the White House podium, slandering the Congresswoman and, by implication, the grieving mother.
