Pretty much default whenever it's played on the prairies. The CFL likes to give it to Toronto or Vancouver as often as they can get away with, but the football heartland of Canada is the large flat bit in the middle. So now and again Winnipeg or Regina play hosts and we get a Blizzard Bowl.

The CFL season is mostly in the summer. I suppose they could back it up even further, but as UA says, that might make it harder to get guys who don't get drafted/picked-up by NFL teams in April.
Glad to see the Argos do well just a few years after their move outdoors went over so poorly. And they are led by Pinball Clemons, who went to/played for W&M.
Sounds like it was a great game.

What's the States side view on this play, Steelers versus Patriots, starting at 10:00? It seems that the TD is disallowed on the technicality that the receiver lost control of the ball as it hit the ground. That's bollocks in my opinion because by any sensible criteria he's caught the football cleanly and then broken the plane of the end zone with the ball under control, at which point a TD is scored. What happens after that is irrelevant.

That makes a lot of sense, but does not appear to be to rule in effect.
A player who goes to the ground in the process of attempting to secure possession of a loose ball (with or without contact by an opponent) must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, there is no possession.

It seems that their record last season was a less than scintillating 1-15, yet the head coach enjoys the support of the owners. One wonders what he must do to get sacked. They returned to the league in 1999? I wasn't even aware that they'd been away. What happened, did the franchise bugger off somewhere else for a few seasons?

Essentially the old Browns franchise moved to Baltimore to become the Ravens, with a new Browns franchise entering the league three years later. However the NFL officially said that the Ravens were the new franchise and that the Browns were the same franchise (but took a hiatus). For records purposes Cleveland retained the history of the old franchise but all the players went to Baltimore, whilst Cleveland was restocked via an expansion draft.

That's a choke job for the ages by Baltimore. Still, good to see the Bufflin' Bills back in the playoffs (for the first time this century).
Elsewhere, the Saints, Rams and Panthers all lose against teams with worse records, which doesn't do a lot to dispel the conspiracy theory that claims they were all trying to get a worse seeding so they could play against the Wentzless no.1 Eagles (rather than the no.2 but now much stronger Vikes).

The story in Oakland is that Mark Davis' financing for the move and the new stadium (evidently heavily dependent on sales of boxes and personal seat licenses) is so fraught that he felt that he couldn't take a chance at another down season before they go to Vegas.
Though why he sees Gruden as a sure thing is another question entirely.
