It's the only bright spot in the disaster that is a lame duck team committed to move to Las Vegas, but unable to do so for at least two years due to the lack of a decent facility.

One of the league's most iconic clubs is a dead man walking.

At some point, the NFL will announce what it’s going to do with Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, who has been under league investigation for more than a year over an alleged domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend.

To hear Cris Carter say it, everything is about to be revealed, and it’s going to involve Elliott getting suspended.

I mean....they're also a pretty good team, so there's that.

This whole situation is odd though. Only the Raiders would be a lame duck team for two whole seasons. I can't think of any North American pro franchise that has been confirmed gone sticking around for such a long time.

I really, really want the Raiders to have two brilliant final seasons in Oakland with lots of success and fans pouring in, before coming completely unstuck and useless once they become Sheldon Adelson's plaything in Vegas. With the Chargers gone, the Raiders are - temporarily - the team I'll be supporting (in my usual offhand, diffident, not-really-supporting kind of way).

Jones is threatening an injunction against the league

              This could be entertaining.

UK viewers can see the NFL Show on the BBC, and there's a preview up on iPlayer at the moment. The consensus there was that Patriots are even stronger than last year, so...

Was there any particular reason to pick the Patriots to go 16-0 besides they'd done it before and went 14-2 last year?

In all fairness, and this is where you have to wonder the x-factor of various players, no one would realize that Julien Edelman is worth that much more thank Gronk.

At some point...at some point...like Holland beating Spain 5-1 in 2014...like the Pats becoming the Commitment to Excellence team and not the Raiders...like the Big Red Machine becoming the Big Red Corpse....Belichick and Brady will die.

I would hope we hear JOR-GEE-OH-TAH-VECK-EE-OH chants in the Black Hole. Certainly the pride of Milano since Mourinho left.

The Jags-Texans was a bit of a shocker, but Fournette was amazing as advertised.

The 28-3-in-the-3rders stuffed Da Burs who had a 1st and goal from the 5 with 3 incompletes and 1 final sack.

The Browns had a furious comeback that fell 3 points short. They also had a hilarious response to the police who were boycotting the game...they invited firefighters, military, and first responders to stand with them for the poem about some piece of fabric flying all night in Baltimore.

Baltimore Tony SiragooseEggs the Bungles, 20-love.

And we have a first place team in the AFC East.

Officially getting annoyed at the people snarking at the Ram and 49er fans for "not showing up" to yesterday's games.

In all likelihood people were there, just huddled on the concourses. Since sitting in an enclosed bowl in 90 degree heat is a very good way to pass out from heat stroke by the end of the first quarter.

Getting very annoyed at snark of some San Diego locals at people who are "not real fans" because they're not supporting the shitty LA transplant team.

Why is being a "real fan" of a contrived team anything to aspire to?

I have no idea, which is one reason it's so irritating. Friends on Facebook are talking about supporting the Broncos tonight, and they're being accused of abandoning the Chargers. Not the other way round. It's weird. I literally can't fathom why anyone in San Diego would still be supporting the Chargers unless they had a personal attachment to Phil Rivers or Dean Spanos.

People "over-identity" with their teams and I suppose a lot of San Diego fans would rather live in denial about how the franchise has screwed them rather than face the reality.

I can understand that, but it's another sad example of how lonely and alienated so many of us are. We're so desperate to be passionate about something that we latch onto nonsense.

Up to a point that's ok, as long as we're able to move in and out of that fantasy world. But a lot of people get trapped in it.

I can see a lot of people in San Diego justifiably being attached to Philip Rivers*, but that wouldn't necessarily make me a Charger fan. Especially with the way that whole move went down and how craven it was. Moving to LA to be the team no one cares about is pretty insulting to San Diego.

*He lives in the area full time, and has continued to live there after the move, besides being a good, long-time QB.

This is not the Cam Newton we know and love. Carolina pass up a first and goal, ending up with a kick, giving Buffalo a final chance to pick up a win.

Saying Jim Harbaugh was the only competent coach since Bill Walsh is a big stretch and belies the author's years. Seifert was a very good coach (94-36, with two Super Bowls), Mariucci was a good coach.

But other than that, the article is pretty good. Levi's still feels like this guy that moved into your mom's place, when they've been married for four years.

One really great thrill before the Stick was gone forever was getting to go to the SF Parks and Rec tours of Candlestick in 2014. They let you do everything but unbolt a seat to take home.

Just turned on the Anyone-But-Chargers vs Chargers game. Glad to see (a) they're not winning; and (b) what look like a fair number of empty seats in their tiny ground. It's not San Jose level of empty, but San Jose isn't the size of the ground of a bottom-half-of-the-championship team
