In 1977, Al Geiberger became the first pro to shoot 59 on the PGA Tour, at the Memphis Classic. Breaking 60 was like golf's four-minute mile, and Geiberger became known as "Mr 59" for doing so, earnnig him more fame than his earlier PGA Championship victory.
Since then, five other players, most memorably David Duval, have equalled 59. One of them, I think the most recent, was Jim Furyk.
Well today, Furyk's gone one better, and shot a 58. It will probably earn him the moniker "Mr 58", and like Geiberger, he will be remembered more for this than his major win
