    Best XI of Euro 2016

Ended up having to do this as a 3-5-2, because of the paucity of really good full-backs, and also in order to get Giaccherini into the team.

    Rui Patricio

    Pepe
    Bonucci
    Chiellini

    Giaccherini
    Joao Mario
    Kroos
    Ramsey
    Nani

    Ronaldo
    Griezmann

I was going to pick Ragnar Sigurdsson, but at the end of the day he did play in a defence that let in five goals in one match.

Kudos for picking a 3-5-2 formation, which seemed to make something of a comeback this tournament.

Little lost boy Kimmich ahead of De Sciglio? Iceland ignored? No Nani? Ehhhh, no.

All the players came from semi-finalists which seems quite short sighted. There's surely room for sentiment in these sorts of "team of the tournaments" and an Icelandic player in there would be sensible I think.

The Guardian's team is much sillier than the UEFA one.

Spain and Poland have as many players in it as Portugal do. Kroos, the best passer in the competition, has been left out completely. No Bonucci either. And they've picked Perisic as a right-winger even though he spent almost the whole tournament on the left!

I know people's opinions will always differ when it comes to putting together something like this, but some of those choices are absolute whack jobs. It has the stench of Michael Cox all over it.

On the basis of his personal performance in a game where they were expected to get battered, I think Michael McGovern deserves a mention, if not the shirt.

I'd have McGovern as one of the two NI highlights, along with Jonny Evans (who had to cover two positions given our lack of a specialist left back). Against Ukraine and Wales McGovern hadn't that much to do as he was well protected.

I'd put Neuer at GK, he had a very good tournament and an outstanding PK series against Italy. In the goal he conceded against France, he was partially blocked by Giroud. Many spectacular saves as well. Lloris too, but he was unlucky banging up his right knee right before the goal where he had to push off that leg to get the proper extension to cover the angle.

Patricio had a good tournament too, but he was beat by Gignac's shot, one inch further to the right and he wouldn't be mentioned here.

Do you have a theory that Lloris injured his knee before Eder's goal? You really should have mentioned it before - it could be used as an excuse for France's defeat, you know?

Pogba would not get into some of the other teams e.g. Croatia, Germany

                          No Rooney?

How can we be expected to take any of these selections seriously?

Payet started off well, but really faded away after in the last few games. And Ozil should feature somewhere. He had a very good tournament; better than Kroos.
