In 1987, Burnley signed Steve Davis and made him captain. He made 147 (!) appearances for the Clarets, before selling him to Barnsley. His replacement from Southampton was Steve Davis.

Too many David Joneses to mention.

Although as it's the second most popular male name in the UK, it's not very surprising.

They all had something in their locker, to be fair.

Turns out that Norwich's current goalkeeper Paul Jones isn't former Southampton goalkeeper Paul Jones.

Hope nobody's breath became too bated:

It was actually 2007, May 30 to be precise, when Crewe Alexandra signed left-back Billy Jones from Exeter City.

Just 12 days left, they sold right-back Billy Jones to Preston North End.

At some time in the 1980s, Bristol Rovers had David Williams and David Geraint "Georgie" Williams in the same team. There was also Steve Williams and, I'm as sure as certain as makes no difference, a Steve Williams from HMP Horfield or Leyhill Open Prison or some other penitentiary, who had a trial at The Gas. At more or less the same time, there was Brian Williams as well.

My Games teacher at the time was also called Williams, but he had nothing to do with Bristol Rovers. He was an unpleasant, rugby-obsessed cunt from Port Talbot, i.e. he was a Bristol-based Games teacher in the 1980s.

Just discovered Rochdale signed two players called Jordan Williams this summer. One from non-league, one on loan from Liverpool for six months.

Steve Evans, former Welsh international defender (thanks a fucking lot for that, Toshack - the bloke already had a massive swell head as it was without dishing out caps to him) and also a cunt... though not quite as big a cunt as his brother.
