Yes. But Royston Chase (as opposed to the main Royston station) would be on a branch line...

Better from WI this innings, but still nothing like good enough. They're even more prone to useless collapses than England. It's a shame, because I have fairly high hopes for their top order (Brathwaite, Powell and Hope, at least).

Pleased to see after his excellent century that the selectors have stuck with Tom Blundell for the second test.

WI win toss and put NZ in. Some mixed bowling, some horribly wayward stuff from Shannon Gabriel especially, followed by some decent stock bowling. Pretty ineffective in the main however and after 37 overs NZ comfortably get to 107/1. Better since lunch but still nothing from the WI that would appear to precipitate a collapse and justify their decision at the coin toss.

Kraigg Braithwaite captains this test as Holder banned for a game due to slow over rates.

India 29/7 v Sri Lanka. Smog jokes take over Twitter.

            Kohli not playing?

              India recovering now, boo.

Kohli is off getting married in Italy, if you believe the gossip (and who doesn't?).

I was lucky enough to play against the Kenya Under-19 team yesterday, for the Australian High Commission. The match was arranged to advertise Australia's stand against gender-based violence (GBV) and both teams were mixed gender. Six of the males are part of the squad going to New Zealand in January, to compete in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. They are in Group A, along with South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies. Tough group, especially as they didn't seem that strong (even allowing for playing against a bunch of duffers). A thing we all noticed was that nearly all batters were more interested in improvisation (ramp shots, walking to off to flick over leg etc.) than playing correctly. That's the influence of T20 in the development of basic skills, I suppose.

We lost by five runs, chasing 161-5 off 20 overs. I had a decent game - 1-9 off two overs and 37 runs, bowled off a big in-swinger from a bowler who was a lot better than I gave him credit for. He's on the plane.

Nice one VT, that sounds like one hell of an experience (and kudos too for a very decent all round showing).

Just watching NZ WI highlights. Sunil Ambris really needs to sort his feet out as he gets out for the 2nd time in 3 innings hit wicket. Denis Compton holds the test record with 5 hit wicket dismissals but Ambris is already up to 3rd equal.

Ambris retired hurt in the second innings. He's not a great player of short bowling. Off to hospital, hoping to get him back to bat later. But Wagner (who hit Ambris) is likely to have wrapped it all up by then.

Wagner now left arm around to the left hander. Not very often you see that.

                        Very hostile too.

The West Indians will be looking forward to eating their lunch, hopefully with all their teeth still in.

Good blocking and ducking by Chase and Reifer.

Ambris' arm is broken, just to cap his terrible series. He'll probably wear an arm guard when he reappears.

Great stuff from Wagner, could have had 6 or 7 wickets.

Some inspired slogging by Roach to get WI above 2013.

It looks like the games will be 98 overs a day over 4 days = 392 overs instead of 450, but obviously the ICC are not expecting lower ranked teams to go that long. The 4 days is to entice the big guns to schedule more tours because they could do two Tests in 10 days, even with two days rest inbetween, then maybe add a T20 and/or 50 over game.

Wouldn't Thu-Sun with 3 rest days in between be better?

I hope to be at Malahide in May for Pakistan.

Thu-Sun, yes, provided the games are not so one-sided that they are finished by Saturday afternoon. Maybe Fri-Mon-two days rest-Thurs-Sun.

Have the days and times been announced for May?

I'll check. Only planning for 1st day, not least as there must be a chance of Ireland skittling for 100 on the first day, then Pakistan hit 400 before declaring and winning by an innings on the 2nd day

Sat in the pub watching the New Zealand - West Indies ODI. There is an awful lot of bad cricket going on, Worker hit a half century then lobbed up an easy catch. A bad call a couple of balls earlier and he'd have been run out by half a pitch with a better throw.

Lots of one-sided series at present, a reversion to the normal pattern after that great week in September. Away teams look beaten before they even set off.

South Africa v India - the visitors have taken three early wickets but the home side has plundered 50 runs off the last 10 to even things up; 93 for 3.
