    The tasseled loafer

Not a great name for a pub.

And not the most beautiful shoe ever designed.

Under some circumstances it would be a better and greater punishment to force a juvenile delinquent wearing that for six months, than punish the juvenile with anything else.

Many juvenile delinquents wore them voluntarily in the late '70's/early '80's ska and Mod revivals.

That two tone version you chose to show us a bit gaudy, but the loafer - tasseled or otherwise - is a design classic and ought to be a staple item in the wardrobe of any gentleman with sartorial awareness. They can be worn formally, with a well cut suit, for business wear or with jeans/cotton trousers and a Brooks Brothers flannel shirt for weekends.

Honestly, it's like Gentleman's Quarterly never existed with you people.

        Well, that's right.
Just make sure you accessorise with off-white bally cotton socks and slightly too short trouser leg for the complete twat look.

There's a fashion in City circles (in insurance, at least) for tasselled loafers teamed with slim-cut suits.

          Fucking pricks.

Or indeed why not wear with skin-tight jeans and no socks for the Luke Shaw look?

Could be worse. They could be brogues.

Don't even need to be brown squashed or pointy.

A nice pair of Oxfords or Derbies (Derbys?) is what you want.

They need metal studs on the bottom - forgotten what they're called.

VIvienne made a plastic version a few years back, and I think still does the slippers.

Blakey's Segs, as immortalised by Vic Reeves.

Anyway, Guy speaks for me on this issue; Oxfords all the way.

The kids at our school who dressed like that were the nastiest bastards around (possibly because, deep down, they knew they looked like twats). I got a kicking on more than one occasion from several pairs of tasselled loafers on the end of too-short-betrousered legs.

I don't see what is wrong with brogues / half-brogues. Oxfords are the shoe for schoolkids or those who can't be arsed.

Brogues are fine, you just have to wear them properly: with a suit, not sockless with jeans like the berks around London Fields used to a few years ago.

Wingtips over brogues for me. But tasseled loafers...blech. Shoes that don't tie-on aren't to be trusted.

This. Must be a Bristol thing.

Worn by those who hold your gaze for an uncomfortably long time. Psychos. Proper ones like.

I love brogues and loafers, me.

I've got a couple of pairs of very dashing tasselled country brogues. One of them has tartan panels and all. They look fab with skirts and dresses.

I've also got a nice pair of chunky Marni loafers that I love, but they need resoling and I can't be arsed.
