Looks like they're going to get kicked out of international athletics for doping-related crimes, if the reports coming out of the WADA press conference this afternoon are true.

I've been watching it on a stream and Dick Pound has just said, with some regret, that WADA's investigation was limited solely to Russia and to athletics.

Outrageous slur on fine nation of sportsmen and sportswomen. Just because jealous.

By the way, the Sports Minister who Pound has called out as being aware of the entire scheme is a FIFA ExCo member and the head of the 2018 World Cup.

there still haven't been any questions from russians at this WADA press conference. i can imagine how it's playing in the motherland.

Domestic media is too busy blaming US collaboration with Islamists for bringing down the Metrojet plane over the Sinai, so you may need to wait some time.

Lord Coe has already come out with the old 'engagement rather than isolation' chestnut, so I can't see Russia getting kicked out of anything.

As with Platini, it is really hard to see the Crown Prince as representing some kind of clean break from past failings, isn't it?

Coe was told all about this years ago and did fuck all.

I see Sky News interviewed Paula Radcliffe earlier tonight about this. Hahaha!

I think this will go wider than Russia very quickly, look how many Turkish women athletes have been caught.

Richard Moore's book about Seoul 1988 includes a long quote from an anti-doping official to the effect that while the Soviets and East Germans were drugged to the eyeballs, the Yanks were worse.

Mind you, by all accounts Moore's latest book goes very soft on Usain Bolt and Jamaican athletics in general.

The Documentary about Ben Johnson in 1988 pretty much says that the USA was assiduously testing all their athletes in the run up to 1984 in order to make sure that they were managing their steroid use properly and they wouldn't all get caught.

An end to all drug testing would make athletics at least 1.1 million times more entertaining. Sprinters doing a sub six seconds 100 metres hopping backwards, athletes turning themselves into human javelins and the steeplechase moved to Aintree. It would be ace.

Bolt smashed the 100m world record despite essentially doing a moon-walk for the final 30 metres of the race. It was as if he was basically showing his arse to the rest of the world.

The doping stuff is less the story than the blackmail/extortion etc, which goes right to the heart of the IAAF and how it operates, and make it impossible to portray it as a "one bad apple nation" thing. There's no way Coe comes out of this cleanly

Her blood values were all over the shop at the London Games, something which only came to light a couple of months ago.

"No, no evidence at all" would have done just fine.
