They don't show up in Chrome either.

Cohen insults Labour members as being ignorant, and not understanding what communism and socialism are, then quotes the late great Mark Fisher, who as I understood it, thought the Corbyn leadership to be a good and exciting thing (on balance); acid-Corbynism.

Fisher specifically despised Cohen, so that's quite funny. As for the Grdn, and especially the Observer, they've been publishing horrendous clickbait for years. I wouldn't call the latter a newspaper at all.

I think (and hope, obviously) that no-one pays these fuckers any heed any more, and deep down they know it. It would explain why they're so extremely bilious about Corbyn, Momentum and young people in general.

Hugo Rifkind, Aaronovitch, Deerin, Lost Highway creep Cohen himself, they are so desperate that Corbynism must fail they are hoping Ruth fucking Davidson is their Good Brexit Saviour. Ruth Fucking Davidson. Who has held at least 8 different position on a Brexit settlement, and is at least as vague and nebulous as Starmer and the gang. At least McTernan has shown some awareness of which way the wind is blowing, these fucks still expect Thunderbirds Are Go to come back from International Rescue and save them all.

Any prick quoting or referencing Orwell in their Twitter bio should be set on fire as a precautionary measure.

When you say "linked tweets" do you mean the ones I embedded above?

They were posted in Chrome and also show up in Safari for me.

Yes, those ones. They're there, as in I can click on them, but they are invisible. Did you use the normal link button?

They show up as embedded pictures of the tweets themselves not as links. They work for me in Chrome

Isn't it Fisher appalling "Vampire's Castle" crap that Cohen is misusing?

Wow, I’d never read that Vampire’s Castle before (only know of Fisher second hand from stuff in the Quietus and Owen Hatherley tbh). As soon as I saw Russell Brand mentioned I inwardly flinched.

They aren't supposed to be links. The idea is that one can read them without clicking on a link and going to Twitter.

To post a Tweet in this way, you need to click on the "Go Advanced" button and enter the url for the tweet between tags.

If you would prefer a link, here is one to Rooksby's Twitter feed. You need to scroll down half a dozen or so to get to the Cohen critique.

Oh I can see them on my phone if I use Chrome, but in Safari there's just nothing there.

I can't ever see embedded tweets on here, unless the s is removed from "https:"

Ok, thanks Reg - I saw something suggesting it was.

I think it is isn't it? The link from the article takes you to that Vampire's Castle piece, and the quote is (not entirely accurately) from there.

                              Oh, right. We disagree, then.

Good news. Labour gain council seat from Tories in Borehamwood.

Probably a few "citizens of nowhere" round there. Plus others less cosmopolitan but who hate NHS cuts of course.

It's not really a gain, it was a tri-member constituency last time, where Labour won 56% of the vote.

It's a gain, per Britain Elects, though I don't understand it properly.

Lots of Jewish voters in Borehamwood. A swing among them would be nice.

It's not really a gain, strictly. But it's over 3 points up for Labour, and over 11 points down for the Tories, so that'll send me nicely to sleep.

The Guardian's top two Opinion pieces are both pearl clutching think pieces about Labour's 'hard left' 'Marxist' 'purges' of 'moderate' MPs. Both are pretty risible but better than the Shropshire Star's piece by Chris Moncrieff (I assume it's also appeared in other regional titles). Clearly there's some messaging going on.

It's an interesting time. I suspect there will be some deselections - if that's how people want to expend their campaigning energy, that's up to them. Swings and roundabouts for the centre-left - there is something to be said in these circumstances for MPs being entirely beholden to the CLPs who select them, rather than the outmoded whipping system, or the controlling "top-down" practice of publishing a manifesto.

I think (with the obvious proviso that it's not my party) that it's about a balance being achieved. It's clearly unsustainable for the party leadership and membership to be so out of step with the party's elected representatives. So, a shift to the left amongst those selected is almost inevitable - given that the leadership and membership now seem more stable. Obviously in an ideal world that would come from natural wastage, but I'd imagine there will be a handful of deselections. To what extent that constitutes a purge, I'm sceptical, I can't see the PLP being dominated by the left, let alone the 'hard left' unless Corbyn (or a successor with a similar ideological position) has 10 years as leader.

Yes, I think those are reasonable predictions.

Of course, if Corbyn wins the next GE, he will almost definitely be leader for 10+ years.

I'm a Labour Party member who was until very recently in Kate Hoey's constituency. She seems an ideal candidate for deselection.
