            the original Honved (homeland defence, a branch of the armed forces) don't quite go back to medieval times though

            Levski Sofia are named after a 19th Century revolutionary but also lack the history of the might Crues

              There's FC Viikingit in Helsinki, named after, well, Vikings.

              Suppose Viking Stavangar may have got there first though.

                There's a couple of Vikingurs in Iceland. The Reykjavik version has a feeder club called Berserkir.

                Also in Iceland can be found Einherji, named after those who died in battle and taken to Valhalla by the Valkyries, and Skallagrímur, named after one of the key figures of Egil's saga.
