Next Labour Leader (and Deputy) - the vote

Yes, I did mean him :-) he's not popular with my friend; she says "I think he's a horrible person, but he'd be good for the Party and the country at the moment"* (in order to shift the agenda and be unapologetically socialist). She also regards him as anti-Semitic (not just anti-Israeli) but thinks there are enough Jewish people amongst the party and supporters to counter that.

    * this is the opposite of what Alastair Campbell and others are saying: "he's a nice guy, but so wrong about so much ..."

Oh I've heard the opposite about him from not-particularly-political types in Islington North. Experiences of people vary, I guess.

Yes, I wouldn't claim it's representative, nonetheless, it has affected my view of him.

The recommendation from my union, plus some recent discussion on the other thread, means I am now swinging towards Burnham over Cooper for 2nd place on my ballot paper.

As a constituent of his for two elections, I was over the moon to have him as an MP and, indeed, was instrumental in me joining the Labour Party st thf time.

One impression I got though was that he was very busy, took on loads and some people didn't appreciate that.

I have to say that the anti-Semitic stuff is starting to sound like "Pro-Palestinian=anti-Zionism=Anti-Israel=anti-Semitic" where it is way way way more nuanced than that.

                      Can't you vote online?

I can, and will, although I think I may have the ballot papers in my pile of unopened post.

Edit; I just voted, took less than a minute.

It saves the Party money if you do it online.

Indeed. Of course the anti-Semitic far right's new-found love for the Palestinian cause doesn't help.

Mine's turned up, and so have the four for the people I'm house sitting for, although one of them arrived today, and already opened.

And I've just voted for Corbyn. No second preference, because of the welfare bill abstention. Also voted Eagle 1, Watson 2 for Deputy. I ain't voting for no Progress types.

I haven't had an email about it either, just an email from my union saying I'm signed up as an affiliated member and that the Labour Party will look into me before issuing a ballot paper - that email was from over a week ago now. After receiving that email, I suddenly started to receive a whole host of emails from candidates, so I assume I'm on some list somewhere.

I trust people are voting in the National Policy Forum and Conference Arrangements Committee elections, boring as they sound. Not much point in voting for a leader of you don't give them back-up

I like that squad, brings a lot to the party. Plenty of left-wingers, spin options, the 12th man even doubles as team psychologist.

I still worry about Watson's vulnerability to LBW though. Local ballot-rigging in Warley?
