    Snake? Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!

Relating to the reaction to the Cech transfer - when did this become synonymous with Judas?

Does a Biblical reference lose its meaning in our increasingly multi-cultural and secular society?

What other footballing terms have been usurped by young pretenders?

Why am I asking so many questions?

    Why do Chelsea fans care?

Or maybe they are actually Harry Potter fans: SNAAAAAAAPE!

It goes against the Chelsea mentality of "who cares if we don't play him all that often--if we keep him, that's one less talented player for another team."

Reminds me of that Liverpool v West Ham game, where the West Ham fans were reflecting on Jonjo Shelvey's resemblance to Lord Voldemort, by singing: "Harry Potter's coming for you!"

i was at that game. if i recall correctly shelvey was involved in a near post scramble that led to an own goal for a 3-2 lead, then ran off celebrating as though he had scored.

Are former players referred to as 'Snakes'now then? I've never heard of it before.

"Good Samaritans" are a classic example of Biblical references that no one gets.

To get back to Harry's question, has anyone actually heard this used?

I assumed Harry was referring to this:

Magnificent reference in the thread title, BTW.

No, I wasn't aware of it but I presume that's what the OP was referring to, thanks.

To be honest that's most of the reason I created this thread.
Well, that and my befuddlement at Cech's supposed ophidian qualities.

Snake wouldn't be a Biblical reference, just simply "snake in the grass" I'd have thought.

I meant Judas when I mentioned Biblical references, wondering why Chelsea "fans" were using a new term instead.
