The Ryanair of minicabs. I don’t have a problem with the concept, but the devil’s in the detail and the execution is problematic. Or shit.

Why did you have to go with him?

Well, since you ask, there were cleaners working in the house (required by tenancy agreement) so the idea was to quickly drop off the cargo then go to the pub for a swifty until they had finished. I could have gone straight to the pub by myself, I suppose, but it was only 3pm.

No I meant why did you have to go in the uber at all? Just load in the junk and send him on his way.

Good point. The junk was a side table that was of sentimental value to the owner (gift from parents). I think he just wanted to accompany it on its final journey.

Edit: Woodworm was the reason for getting rid of it.

Are you assuming that many/most black cab drivers are Leavers? Or do you just mean 'any of them that did vote leave'?

Stands to reason mate, dunnit. I had that Michael Gove in the back of me cab once - proper gent. Where to mate?

The only black cab driver I've ever actually known was somebody I met on the WSC 1994 African Cup of Nations trip, lovely fella.

                              As you were.

                                        Well well well.

Uber's model of allowing "anyone to sign up and offer for trade" has offended people who've signed up and offered to trade -

Haha. I was just saying to my wife that it's increasingly hard to find a car in Toronto that doesn't have the Uber 'circle' or Lyft logo in the front/rear windows.

(It is actually more to do with one authority's PHV plates now being valid in another authority.

Sheffield is plagued with these people - it's probably OK if neighbouring and cheek-by-jowl NE Derbyshire operate in the southern half of the city, but it's repugnant that Rossendale operators seem fit to bowl up)

Can someone let me know what kind of firm Taxify are? I have been using their app and service in Bucharest (and this week in Cluj) and it's absolutely excellent from the point of view of the passenger, and according to the drivers I have talked to it's really good for them too (the ones who have done both uber and taxify say the difference is massive and they've all given up uber now). But before I start raving about it as an unpaid shill, does anyone have a reason that I should look askance?

They are Estonian and seem to be especially focused on providing services in areas that the more usual suspects aren't interested in (the Baltics, South Africa, Kenya). They have investment from Daimler and some Chinese firms, but don't appear to be notably evil.

Cheers ua. They are squeezing uber out of Cluj, because they pay the drivers well and people are using them much more. So all seems good.
