    Islamic State Watch

I'm struggling to think of anything worse he's done.

Such a relatively short, apparently sweet military involvement is turning into one of the worst foreign policy decisions in memory. Competitive field that one too. Truly the heir to Blair.

It's now looking increasingly likely that the UK is going to bomb IS in Syria, if they get approval from parliament. Why don't they get a one-size fits all bill through to attack IS? I mean they are everywhere now, operating from Algeria across to Afghanistan.

Kuwait launches a rather draconian response to the bombing of the Shia Mosque last week.

The BBC have reported that Turkey and Jordan are thinking about invading Syria to set up a buffer zone, remember Israel in Lebanon is what I say.

For Turkey this idea has been mooted a lot but it's not something they can seriously do without US support. The BBC also said it was too counter IS, seeing as most of the foreign fighters and military equipment comes in from Turkey and that Turkey is swarming with IS supporters I doubt this. If Turkey does turn against IS there will be carnage, it will make Tunisia look like an extremely small and insignificant event. Erdogan has seriously miscalculated with his insistence on regime change in Syria at all costs rhetoric. I fear deeply for Turkey.

mm, I wouldn't bank on much UK Government support if I was living or visiting Turkey either. They don't seem to know their arse from their elbow on these issues.

By the way, I forgot to say that my best mate's daughter and her boyfriend were in Sousse last Friday. Luckily in a different hotel. They took the first flight back that Thomas Cook offered them, somewhat unsurprisingly.

The family are blaming the police, saying that they could have done more. The letter sent by the school was given to the kids to give to their parents.

GO, of all the Turkish cities to be in I would say this is the safest. The vast majority of foreigners who love and work there are in the embassies and the previous attacks that targeted foreigners in Ankara were against the embassies. There are no tourist attractions in Ankara so I think any attacks in Ankara would be targeted at either the embassies or Atatürk's Mausoleum.

I would say this, wouldn't I? But anyway- it's a standalone academy. Stopping children joining ISIL is quite a responsibility alone. I wonder if an LA school would have been allowed to make this mistake.

Not anymore. From this week schools are going to be held responsible for their students in preventing radicalisation.

I can't believe they didn't get the parents in for a meeting with the community police officer.

That's now official policy? My God.

I can't think of anything else more important right now, nor anything that so loudly screams "oversight required by specialists". Instead it'll be poor saps with more than enough to do already worrying themselves to death.

In Syria it appears that the regime is again trying to attack and destroy the supply route from Lebanon and secure an area that IS had control over near Damascus, there is also heavy fighting in Aleppo.

Turkey has also been making noises about entering Syria if it felt that its security was being compromised.

An interesting split has occurred in the Irish Muslim community over Tunisia - the official Irish Council of Imams, led by the prominent public spokesman Ali Selim, has dismissed concerns about radicalisation in Ireland, saying that no mosques follow an extremist line. On the other hand, the Muslim Peace and Integration Council, established by Sheikh Umar al-Qadri, is planning an anti-IS march, and takes the view that Irish Muslims should be pro-active in tackling fundamentalism head on.

All holiday flights from the UK to Tunisia for the rest of 2015 were finally cancelled on Friday morning, on FCO advice. Our travel agency has already advised us we're getting a cancellation refund. Pity, I'd got myself back round to thinking it would have been nice to go.

We've re-booked our "winter sun" trip to Cyprus, instead. The end of Cyprus that's about 100 miles by boat from the Turkey/Syrian border. So watch that space.

As someone on Twitter said when this happened, it's always a senior member or a key figure, isn't it? They never put out reports about having killed an underling, or someone who was linked to the group and might have been planning something but who probably wasn't that important really, after all they're just very small cogs in a large machine.

The number of them that end up dead, Islamist groups must have more CEOs and middle managers than... some sort of business with a lot of CEOs and middle managers.
