High tide in Cork is at 3 pm on Monday. The storm looks like it is forecast to pass over southwest Ireland in the in the early afternoon.

There's a reservoir upstream of the city. Probably time they started letting out some water in anticipation for the masses of rain that will fall.

I'm looking at the tree outside the house, there isn't a breath of wind at the moment, definitely the calm before the storm

Fuckin hell it is pretty spooky still out there. Wind is a constant three floors up normally in Dublin, the trees, they do not move!

Twelve hours until Ophelia's due in Kerry.

Fair to say the first time that the National Hurricane Centre has cropped up on RTE weather forecasts!

Is it actually going to be hurricane force when it hits Kerry?

We really aren’t prepared for serious weather at all. If thousands needed to be evacuated in a hurry, good luck.

Will it make it to Denmark?

That's what the Six One News seemed to say, but that's probably more the gusts than the main thrust of the wind.

Cat 2 hurricane force when it hits Kerry and West Cork, according to Met Eireann.

Harvey was Cat 4 when it came ashore and Maria was Cat 5.

So it's going to be manageable, but still very dangerous.

Suppose we really are closer to Boston than Berlin unfortunately, at least climatically speaking.

Cliffs of moher visitors centre closed obviously with a stay away warning so you guarantee there'll be arseholes up there tomorrow

                                Stay safe, Ireland-based OTFers.

Probably not, by the time it batters Ireland then Scotland/N England I’d say it’ll just be a bit of dreich October weather across the North Sea, at least south of Norway.

Hopefully the bastards who keep fly tipping our street get a black bag blown into their windscreen resulting in painful Life Changing/fatal injuries. Fly tipping dumping out of cars bastards.

                                      Ophelia pain.

Yes as tee rex concludes it really was a lame attempt at a Shakespearean reference. I don't really have any great interest in its potential to make landfall in Denmark

Yes thanks for the thoughts Sam, still mild enough here in Dublin, four of us made it into work to find out the rest of the building were told to stay at home but since we're retail we have to stay open for nobody! Buses are going off at 10 so a walk home through a tropical storm sounds like as good a Monday as I've had in a long time

Thanks, just been told we're closing at 12 so should be ok ,it's actually sunny here at the moment, city centre like a ghost town with only a few tourists wandering around

Weirdly, it's going to be 23C and sunny in dear old London Tahn today. Although there's a breeze getting up.

Good luck to everyone in Ireland, then Scotland tonight and Scandinavia tomorrow. Winds due to step up abruptly from 20mph to 50mph from one hour to the next at c. 1pm where I am in south Wales, where it's warm (19 or 20ºC) and the promised 'sunshine' has indeed arrived a few minutes ago – but only in the sense that it looks like the end of the world out there right now:

We're getting it in north Wales too. The bridge back over to the island (Ynys Môn) will shut at 3pm - and it's strangely warm and windy out there!
