    Transfers summer 2015 thread

    Might as well kick this off with the news that Man Utd have signed Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven for £22 million.

    Presumably Depay is Van Gaal's signing, he seems to be praised for the signings that work out and avoid any criticism for the ones who've bombed.

      Well I don't think anyone thinks he signed the players who bombed though.

        Have United ever had a bad Dutch player? I suppose Jordi Cruyff, but I may claim him to be Catalan to ease my point home. Muhren, Stam, Van Der Gouw, Van der Sar, Van Nistelrooy, Blind, Van Persie... they're all good lads, them.

              Cruijff wasn't that bad, just a bit lightweight.

              Buttner was brutal. Apart from that super goal against Wigan, of course.

                You can eliminate him by referring only to Dutch internationals, as he never got a senior cap.

                  I remember some dutch journalist summing up jordi Cruyff saying he was quite a good player, but unfortunately for him he was always going to be compared to his father or Ryan Giggs, and that's just not fair for anyone.

                            Well yes, they are already ridiculously inflated, but the relaxing of FFP must surely open the market back up to some of the Sugardaddy clubs again and mean that those fees become even more preposterous than they already were.

                              IS this for all transfers or just BRCs?

                              Shrewsbury Town have signed Mat Sadler who played well for them on loan for a season a couple of seasons ago.

                                The goalkeeper merry-go-round will be the drawn out affair of the summer, it seems. Main vacancy is at Real Madrid.
                                David De Gea is the big story here obviously, but if he moves then that opens up spots somewhere for Petr Cech and Asmir Begovic, who both seem to want to switch clubs. But in neither case probably not directly replacing Casillas or filling the gap left by the man who probably will, either.

                                At a guess it will all end something like:-
                                De Gea -> Real
                                Lloris -> Man U
                                Cech (or Begovic?) -> Spurs
                                Someone (Begovic?) -> Chelsea reserves

                                But there will be a lot of words written and a lot of boredom for all before that is finally all sorted.

                                  Madrid will want to get that deal done quickly if only to eliminate any possibility of interference from their impending transfer ban.

                                  I have a feeling the Bale thing may run longer.

                                    Ignoring such minor fuss, the big news is Cambridge's first signing of the summer. Centre-back Leon Legge has joined on a free. To quote the club website;

                                    The 29-year joins the U’s from Gillingham FC after a two and half year spell at the Priestfield stadium.

                                    As well as adding solidarity to the U’s defensive line, Legge brings a wealth of experience to the club having amassed over 280 career appearances.

                                    He is now and forevermore to be referred to as Comrade Legge.

                                      We've re-signed Lee Croft for his third spell at BP. What with him and Dean Holden back we're clearly rebuilding the 2004 Thurrock FA Cup side. Next up: persuading Rob Lee to come out of retirement.

                                        Lovely cuddly Xavi:

                                        Barcelona midfielder Xavi is ready to announce on Thursday he is leaving Barcelona to join Qatari side Al Sadd in a three-year deal, says his agent.

                                        ...Xavi would also become an ambassador for the 2022 World Cup to be held in the Gulf state and look to start his coaching qualifications.

                                          Hummels has ruled out a move to Man Utd and will stay at Dortmund.

                                          Now van Gaal wants his old charge Bastian Schweinsteiger for United.

                                            old being the right word. Schweinsteiger is nearly 31, and has missed large portions of the last two seasons. I'd be very surprised if van gaal is interested in signing him.

                                              Carlisle have already signed Jason Kennedy (ex-Bradford, spent arse end of last season on loan with us), Michael Raynes (ex-Mansfield) and Luke Joyce (ex-Carlisle and most recently at Accrington).

                                              I'm pleased they're getting some deals done early as all the signs are that things are descending into turmoil off the field.

                                                Maybe he's hoping that when Carrick is unfit, Schweini will be fit and vice versa.

                                                Van Gaal turned Schweinsteiger into a central midfielder, Schweinsteiger would fill a void for which there might be no available candidates, van Gaal likes players he knows, and Schweinsteiger is out of favour with Pep and will be out of contract next season, so he'll be relatively cheap.

                                                Though I'm far more excited about rumours that van Gaal wants Thomas Müller, another old protege who doesn't seem to gel with Pep. Müller would be his Cantona.

                                                  Er, if sebastian schweinsteiger is the best candidate they can come up with then they should fire the scouting staff, preferably out of a cannon.
