    Pound-for-pound, dollar-for-dollar: Boxing

Anyone else giving it a go? I normally avoid these showpiece PPV fights as they are so often such awful disappointing rip-offs but have been suckered in on this one as it has to be seen, however many years too late it is.

I hope Pacquiao gives Mayweather a humbling defeat but doubt it will play out like that, can't see Mayweather going toe-to-toe with him even now.

I better start preparing if I'm in this.

I can't see why either of them gives a shit, given that they're getting paid something like £50m each just for stepping in the ring, and both will probably retire straight afterwards. I think it would be hilarious if the two of them decided to waltz round the ring together for 12 rounds of 3 minutes in front of an increasingly irate crowd.

I'd love to see this, but it's almost impossible from here. Heart says Pacquiao, head says he won't lay a punch on Mayweather. So I'd best not watch it after all, then.

The press conferences seem to have been very friendly; not exactly a burning rivalry or desire to prove a point.

IIRC Leonard had some late fight(s) against Hearns that was like this. Or Duran when he needed to pay some debts.

About the most entertaining part of this fight is going to be Amir Khan standing at ringside waving unsigned contracts around yelling "why won't either of you fight me? Fight Meeeee!!".

Apparently just 500 of the 16,000 tickets were put on sale to the genera; public. The rest went to corporate guests, Hollywood stars and various other shitehawks.

Mayweather is a hideous scumcunt. I'd love to see him receive the same treatment he inflicts on the women in his life, but he'll probably shuffle his way to a safe victory on points.

                Seconded.

The hype has got me really interested in watching it, but I fear that MGM will have a way to shut down any streams. It's $100 for PPV in HD.

For those unfamiliar with Mayweather's sordid history of serial abuse.

The buildup to this fight has gone on for so long I've no interest in it.

If this happened before Pacquiao entered politics it would have been a better contest, but now I'm not so sure.

I think Mayweather may just have waited long enough to ensure his victory.

The evidence from his sons regarding the violence towards their mother is always the most chilling part of the stories about Mayweather's history.

The probably vain hope of seeing him get a beating is certainly a factor in wanting to watch the fight, not that it would be any kind of real punishment.

I can't believe that Mayweather is older than Pacquiao. Pac-man looks like 5 years older than him.

I'm guessing most of you have never seen this, a really bad commercial but one that makes me laugh every time I see it. Pacquiao in an ad for a local Indian casino:

The smile as he's holding a knife and fork in his boxing gloves kills me.

Has everyone seen this already ?

I'd've been frog-marched right out of the studio.

Beautiful. Beautiful singing of one of my favourites..

The more I read about this fight the sadder I am that Hunter S Thompson isn't there to cover it, blasted out of his mind on acid, coke and mescaline.

We could get George Osborne to cover it? He meets the criteria.

Can't they just put both of them in the ring against Mike Tyson? I'd pay to watch that.

Can't disagree with anything on this. Heart says Manny, head says Mayweather. 5 years too late. Can't really be bothered to try some hooky internet feed at 2am.

The whole 'event' thing reminds me of when Harry and I went to Froch/Groves last summer. Even though it was a decent fight with a pretty good undercard, it felt like an event of sports tourism rather than a boxing match. Tonight I expect will be exactly the same. You know that there isn't going to be a knockout punch in round 1 and not just because of cagey tactics.

It is probably the last of such match-ups that are going to be seen for a long, long time at any weight. The thought of Amir Khan watching with unsigned contracts makes me chuckle though.

Mayweather has banned Michelle Beadle and Rachel Nichols, two prominent TV sports reporters, from being on the premises of the MGM. They have both discussed his domestic abuse history.

Yeah, I did. 'Fight of the Century' my arse! Mayweather was just way too quick for Pacquiao. They haven'nt announced it yet, but it was about 9 rounds to 3 in Mayweather's favour. Big anti-climax.

Snoozer, but I guess all of Mayweather's fights are. Would have been really funny to hear the announcer say Pacquaio's name as Mayweather climbed the ropes and held up his hands.
