    Manoel de Oliveira

Has died, at the age of 106 (I reckon we'd call that a good innings) http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/03/arts/manoel-de-oliveira-pensive-filmmaker-who-made-up-for-lost-time-is-dead.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=m ini-moth&region=top-stories-below&WT.nav=top-stories-below&_r=0

To be honest I found his films a tad slow for me, but I did appreciate the work that went into them and the rationale behind his approach.

So long did he live (and continue making films) that the Venice Film Festival ended up giving him two lifetime achievement awards

It's striking to think he was 100 years old at the time of the photograph on thr NYT article. He looks about 70.

I know of him, but I've never seen any of his movies. What he was able to do is pretty staggering.
