During the summer of 1982, my sister insisted on playing some drippy Shakatak album in her car. Among all the 'shoobadoobadoop'-type elevator vocals, there was one track that sounded distinctly like 'shove it up your arse, Jupp Derwall'.

Given West Germany's performances at that year's World Cup, this caused no small amount of amusement to me and my cousin. Much to my sister's irritation.

In the 1970s there was a player called Damjanoff playing for Hannover 96. At around the same time, the Bay City Rollers had a hit in Germany with "Manana". Since I knew no English, I couldn't sing along witrh the lyrics, so I adapted them to "Damjanoff, spielt für Hannover Sechs-und-Neunzig". It should have been a terrace chant.
