    Led Zeppelin

Paradox: the band credited with founding 'heavy metal' made albums that contained a fair bit of folky and Arabic influence. OTOH they spawned imitators who are an abysmal stain on music, such as Whitesnake.

I think LZ's 'Spinal Tap' tendencies were outside the music and were more to do with the crap lyrics, overblown imagery and, most obviously, the rampant misogyny of how they abused groupies who were often very young (Page's main girlfriend was only 14).

Jimmy Page, who turns 70 on January 9th, seems to have been a very fucked up personality, dabbling in Satanism and underage girls, yet he also had a gift for musical arrangement that arguably as good as any British artist of his generation except Bowie.

Robert Plant has arguably made better music solo than he did with LZ.

Page has been reduced to antics like this in recent years to keep himself occupied.

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page is re-releasing a limited number of copies of the ‘Death Wish II’ soundtrack tomorrow (Dec. 1). Beginning at 10AM ET, fans of his or the movie (let’s be honest, it’s going to be fans of his) can get one of 30 autographed copies or 1000 individually-numbered, non-autographed copies.
Page’s signature comes with a hefty surcharge. The package will cost roughly $305 (195 British Pounds) compared to just $47 for the standard package (shipping will cost an additional 10 to 15 Pounds).
The soundtrack is - as anybody with functioning hearing who has watched the movie will attest - fucking rubbish!
