    Only one Face left

Sad news. Saw him a couple of times as part of The Blokes, Billy Bragg's backing band. He was the least drunken Face, wasn't he?

      Oh fuckity fuck.

Worked with him a couple of times in the late '90's and he was the sweetest guy. I was torturing him to play the music from Sale Of The Century on the Hammond at soundcheck so I could say 'and now, from Norwich - IT'S THE QUIZ OF THE WEEK!! ' but he explained that he'd been living in the States for years and had no idea what i was on about.

      Fuck it anyway.

I don't know. Maybe. He was the oldest by a year or so, and the only one with much of track record as a musician before The Small Faces. So perhaps he was a bit more mature. Along with Stevie Marriott's voice he also defined their sound I feel. Especially in the first couple of years.

We shared a birthplace (Hounslow) and The Faces were one of the great bands for my generation, so I will raise a glass and have a flick through "Last Orders Please" in his honour.

          RIP.

I'd have gone for an alternate title:

"I was glad to come, I'll be sad to go. So while I'm here, I'll have me a real good time."

            .

The Faces looked like they really did have a good time. I'd hate to live downstairs from them (they played pissed football in hotel corridors late at night) but they were great fun to watch and I actually liked their boogie woogie piano, with Rod jumping all over it.

If I was ten years younger maybe so. But the Marriott led band will always have pride of place in my heart.

                And soul:

One of my favourite clips from the period (with P.P. Arnold — a massive bonus)

Nor do I. Did he write the music for it or something?

RIP - Small Faces and The Faces were both great bands, of course. McLagan also played some sterling stuff with Dylan and The Stones in later years.

Would love to have seen the Faces live.

Only Kenney Jones remains of The Small Faces.

It has always amazed me how little credit was given to the Small Faces. There songs were Superb. I mean The Afterglow and Son of A baker. Also how good was Marriott as a Vocalist!

I'm pretty sure that Jimmy Winston (Small Faces original organist)is still alive.

I did see the Faces live. Got roaring drunk. The Small Faces are one of those bands that everyone likes but never seem to get credit.

                                            RIP.

You're right. I think because they were so young, didn't really have the lineage/connections of other London bands, and always seemed to be in it mostly for giggles. They only started to be taken seriously just before Stevie M left.
