    Spanish football 2014-15

    The hits keep on coming.

Puyol has resigned in solidarity with Zubi

Early elections (which will almost certainly result in the exit of this Board and the return of Laporta) look increasingly inevitable.

it's amazing how hard real madrid and barcelona are working to destroy the reputation of fan ownership.

Yeah, it's almost as if they are working for others with different "business models".

Nor do I think that he's off to PSG / Man City / Chelsea in this window (all reported "rumours" today so far).

is there any club that could afford to sign him? You're limited to a very small number of clubs there. Real Madrid obviously isn't an option. Man utd need to spend the money elsewhere first, leaving you with Bayern Munich.

I've just had a horrible thought. Could either real madrid or barcelona be demutualized like a building society?

I don't know enough Spanish corporate law to answer that, but the political obstacles are massive.

That's what led to them (and Athletic and Ossasuna) being exempt from the mandated change to corporate ownership several years ago.

Well I suppose that's good, in that if those clubs are behaving like this already, imagine how mental perez would go if he didn't face elections and had a profit motive.

atletico beat real 2-0 in the copa del rey. The foul that sergio ramos committed to give away the penalty, is extraordinarily stupid, even by his exalted standards.

he later blatantly handled the ball and got away with it. You'd have to wonder how many times would he have been sent off if he wasn't a protected special golden world cup winner/real madrid icon

I'm guessing by the final tally of ten yellow cards that this fixture was as unwatchable as it usually is.

It was worth watching for the penalty, and ramos's angry protests afterwards. He's so painfully stupid.

It's gas. 50 or 60 years from now, people are going to glance at Sergio Ramos's wikipedia page, look at all the medals he got, and think: "Jesus, he must have been some defender."

He's the Phil Neal of the modern age.

Quite the pass from Mr. Messi

Barcelona are 4-0 up over Elche after about an hour of their Copa del Rey match.

Hurray Suarlan has scored a goal against mighty elche. Well worth the £75 million, and clear evidence that his absence from the ballon d'or short list is the result of a dark conspiracy lead by alex ferguson.

                                        It will be amusing.

Ramos has been named in UEFA's 2014 Team of the Year. All for scoring a header in a final against opponents who were out on their feet.

Ibrahimovic is in it too. Jesus wept.

                                                Spanish football 2014-15

Sunday's 1-0 loss against Real Sociedad was a perfect example of the recurrent problems of Enrique's team. There was the lack of consistency: he's yet to feature the same lineup in any two league matches, and this time he left out the season's three best performers, Messi, Neymar, and Gerard Piqué. There was the lack of planning: Messi and Neymar were rested since they'd only had two practices ahead of the match after their extended winter holiday, an extension Enrique himself granted them. Most troubling of all was the lack of any semblance of an overarching strategy.

                                                a) Pique? b) did enrique have any choice in giving his players an extended break c) is this not the fifth year or so that messi has been rested after his extensive and exhausting schedule of christmas commercial and promotional duties

This reversion to the norm must come as a huge relief to traditional barcelona fans, who must have been deeply uncomfortable during that period of time when the club was well run both on and off the pitch.

Bale set up the first goal with a great crossfield pass (for Ronaldo to one touch into the path of James), and then scored one of the best freekicks you'll ever see. Later in the game he got booed by the crowd and yelled at by Ronaldo.

                                                  Funny old game.

Isco is a lovely player. I'm sure we've said, but really... lovely.

Barca go one up against Atletico.

Earlier I saw highlights of Real Sociedad.getting played off the park by Granada yet getting away with a point by virtue of a terrible penalty decision going their way. Things are looking up for Moyes.
