One album is all they needed.

Those bands that may have produced only one album that is all you need, This maybe because everything was either crap, worthless "unreleased rarities" money-making exercises or there is nothing other than the one album.

Obviously no greatest hits or live albums count.

Never Mind The Bollocks - Sex Pistols.

It get's in my list because I think it's shit. I'd be happy to have someone try to convince me otherwise. I'd give it a second go.

                      "Forever Changes" - Love

I'd dispute Jeff Buckley - there are some great songs on "Sketches..."

And I'd definitely dispute Love's Forever Changes. The first side of Da Capo, about half the tracks off their first album. And two or three off Four Sail. are all well up to that standard.

But that's OK, It's how these things go. cf: the 'Best of' thread.

Not a bad shout, but about half of Wow! is essential. I've also known people who swear by Grape Jam but they're mostly in care homes now.

This Corrosion and Lucretia My Reflection were good. But, for me, they were singles rather than album tracks. The rest of it was forgettable.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I assumed (and the first few posts seem to corroborate) that this thread was about artists who'd only released one album - this being considered a bit of a classic. (Hence my comment about the Stone Roses upthread.)

Surely it's just a turkey-shoot otherwise and therefore a bit pointless?

I took this to cover multi-album acts. Obviously there are loads of acts who are liked by their fans and not by everyone else. There are some bands though who manage one great statement and then carry on with what all but the hardcore would consider to be greatly diminished returns.

One album and the greatest hits is probably quite a well represented niche: SFA are certainly that for me.

I flirted with idea (based on OP's framing), but they have a fair smattering of decent tunes over a number of LP and singles beyond DM.
