The original poster of that ad, turns out to have been a picture of an Irish actor, rather than a unemployed Briton http://thewordsmythuk.wordpress.com/2014/04/24/the-sweet-sweet-irony-of-ukips-latest-poster-campaign/

Yes it is me. In one of the more bizarre things I've done in my life, I've decided to stand as a Green Party candidate in my ward in Waltham Forest. I'm a mere "paper candidate" and the ward seems to be solidly Labour. Still, it will be interesting to observe the process, and if I get more votes than at least one other candidate, I feel I'll have achieved something.
I'm also a Green Party candidate: in previous elections I've got 2- 3% as a paper candidate. My mate- Green Group leader on a metropolitan authority in the Midlands- got 58% last time, so progress is possible
By standing, DCB is also
a) giving everyone in his ward a chance to vote Green, including
b) some of the lazy/ bored/ cynical who might otherwise have stayed at home, or even chosen UKIP
I notice that the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition is putting up 3 candidates in my ward so I'll be competing with them for the disaffected left vote.
The bedrock of TUSC is the Socialist Party (a rump of the old Militant, expelled by Labour), and they're notoriously, erm, un-collegiate when it comes to working with potentially like-minded others. I remember once doing some anti-cuts leafleting in the town square with the trades council (which included unaffiliateds, LP members, pre-rape-crisis SWPers and others), and the SP determinedly set up on the other side of the square, with their own stall, and their own stuff, and came nowhere near us.
The Brighton City Council dispute is a factor. Very basically, the Green membership there and beyond fell out over a decision to cut some payments to a sector of the workforce in order to meet legal obligations to less well-paid others.
Roger Helmer, a UKIP MEP for the East Midlands who is standing for re-election, said Mr Henwood's comments did not represent his party and were only being reported because of a campaign against it.
Mr Helmer told the BBC: "We have an individual who has made totally unacceptable comments but you will find individuals like that in all parties, and behaviour like that in all parties.
Errm, no, Mr Helmer, it's pretty much just your lot, actually. That's what comes of being a half-baked organisation put together in a hurry with an egomaniacal leader and a bunch of chauvinist policies. Funnily enough, those conditions are more likely to give rise to fielding this kind of offensive nutcase more than the other parties do.
On a lighter note, Lenny Henry, "black country"... I wonder if anyone's pointed the irony out to him?
We have an individual who has made totally unacceptable comments but you will find individuals like that in all parties, and behaviour like that in all parties.
Neil Hamilton's said something very similar. I thought their USP was supposed to be an alternative to the homogonised main three parties, so when something rears its head that genuinely does distinguish them from the mainstream it's a somewhat confused message to insist they're the same.
In a BBC interview with John Pienaar today, Hamilton claimed that the embarrassing UKIP candidates are similar to "Fat Lib Dem Sex Pests" like Cyril Smith and Chris Rennard.
Apart from Smith having been dead for years and Rennard denying the charge. Unlike the queue of kippers keen to boast about theirs, maybe?
Ha ha, that's comically desperate. It's so obvious, quite apart from the fact that UKIP is institutionally responsible for their brand of the tendencies under comparison, unlike the Lib Dems for theirs, that UKIP have more racist loonies than Lib Dems have fat sex pests, even if you measure the totals by weight.
But he agreed that UKIP was taking votes off the BNP, claiming "a lot of decent people" who were not racists had voted BNP in the past "out of desperation".
No, Neil. They didn't. That's not why they voted for the BNP.

Moron of the Week: Neil Hamilton.
What a fetid little skidmark of a man he is.
Chucked out by Paul Sykes apparently, their big donor. He likes to give money with strings, like in 1997 where he gave it to Tory candidates who said they'd vote against their parties own agreed policy on the EU.
His judgement on Hamilton is probably sound enough.
