I finally broke the album habit a few WCs ago, and have no kids to pretend to buy them for. Even pretend kids.

But I do still superstitiously buy a few packs and prop key players I want to win up in front of the telly.

Ms Felicity, by the way, won my heart at least in part cos she had the '74 and '78 albums preserved in good condition in a box in the cellar. She also enthusiastically hunted down most of the 82 and 86 albums with me. I think by 90 I was on my own.

She had answered a school (in Norwich) careers question about what her dream job would be as 'playing for Scotland next to Arthur Albiston'.

I'm in, got my album today and bought 6 packs, in addition to the 5 your get free with the album.

Currently have 3 swapsies, Algeria and France have been the most numerous with 6 Algerians and 5 Frenchmen stuck in so far.

Similarly to how I remember 2010, I seem to have far more higher than lower numbered stickers, although it's early days.

So who needs Cameroon keeper, Charles Itandje (#91), the Greece team (#204) or Emmanuel Emenike (#487)?

Have started Project Panini at work with key objective to have book completed in time for World Cup commencing. A fine start has been made with the minutes from our first meeting below :-

Thank you for your active participation at lunchtime today. I thought it would be useful to summarise the key outcomes from our discussions :-
Full commitment was confirmed by all attendees
Project to be limited to current participants, although where opportunities arise we maintain an open door policy to recruit other individuals if access to doublers is provided
4 packets per week per individual at a weekly outlay of £2
Non-presentation of weekly packs will result in the “Penalty Packet” being invoked whereby errant party will need to purchase an additional pack
Sticking to be carried out under supervision for an initial period until deemed fit to solo sticking – no creasing permitted and extra caution to be taken with strangely numbered stickers
Album to be locked away at night
Only one for one swaps permitted, however at latter stages of completion there may be a need to revisit this policy

We have several doublers (ncluding one shiny)already happy to enter into negitiations with other parties.

I presume it was to allow the squads to be as up to date as possible, but my album only has numbers, no names. I'm going to have to be really scrupulous about putting stickers on to the right spot. It seems a lot flimsier than usual too, though that's maybe because I've (er, I mean, we've) only put four stickers in so far.

Yes, this is really bad. The only thing I liked about Panini albums, even as a kid, was the statistics. "Stewart Barrowclough, 5'6", 9st 0lbs", that kind of thing.

I bought a copy of Sport Bild yesterday and got a free album with it - including two whole stickers, one of which was Lionel Messi.

I don't know whether everybody with a Panini album that came free with yesterday's Sport Bild has Lionel Messi, but I know I have.

If anybody wants it, they can have it.

I thought perhaps I'd misremembered the name thing but on the plus side it does mean that if you mistakenly put a sticker in the wrong place it doesn't really matter (unless it's a badge, team or stadium).

The stickers do have player info on them.

I thought that England thing was a joke earlier, but blimey. I thought it might have been because the new kit was under wraps, but the FA really are twatty aren't they? I bet Nike are chuffed, considering the sticker album is a two month long advert for the world cup, and the kits. FIFA should make it a condition of World Cup entry that FAs allow logos and that on the stickers.

I'm making an early call on Yacine Brahmi (595) being the easiest one to get.

imp - The UK version of the sticker book does have names and numbers. And the books are free in the co-op, if you want to get one of your relatives to grab you one.

My 15-year-old this morning finally noticed the album and stickers, which have been sitting in full view for a week, and was, moreover, genuinely enthusiastic about their arrival, and at the prospect of us opening and sticking in the first 100 packets next week. This has made the whole project (and expense) worthwhile, but must surely represent my last Panini endeavor. Unless one day I have grandkids.

Ms Longeared returned from a visit to Morrisons this afternoon with the news that they were giving the albums away for free. She had the foresight to get me one, which I was dead pleased about.

My album came with six stickers attached to start me off, it seems that there was some over enthusiastic cutting of the stickers as anyone referring to my album will not know which club Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) plays for.

Oh, I really wish I hadn’t come across this thread. The small boy in me still desperately wants to collect Panini stickers – as I have done in partnership with my son every two years since 1998. He ducked out halfway through completing the Euro 2012 collection and I finished it myself, applying the stickers to the album when my wife was out to avoid questions like “Have you been buying more of those silly stickers?” and “How much is that costing you?”

As he has now left home, this time I’d be on my own right from the start, so I can’t even use him as my Panini beard; and rationally I really can’t justify spending upwards of £70 on what, when all’s said and done, is just a fairly flimsy collection of player pictures. If you saw the equivalent in a bookshop on sale at that price, let’s face it, you’d pass fairly swiftly by. And yet. And yet..........

Got my first Iran sticker today, which means that I now have at least one sticker for each team.

On the downside though, in four packets I got almost as many "swaps" as "needs", which seemed a bit unlucky considering that my album is only about 1/6th completed.
