    asics (and Ruel Fox)

    As it seems we're in the mood for this, the asics mention on the Leeds thread got me all nostalgic. Asics were the main sponsor of Norwich when I started supporting them, and my first kit as a nipper was the Asics home one.

    Glorious.

    Also, I'm sure I used to see them advertise the fact that you could drop an egg onto their 'gel' trainers and it wouldn't smash. Sure that must have come in handy.

          Yeah, we got a dodgy keeper shirt from them too, once. Maybe not quite so bad...?

            That Newcastle shirt above and this Pompey one were the ones I was referring to on the Leeds thread;

            That one shouldn't have worked but it did. Asics were really good with shorts and socks too, getting the details and trim right.

                Norwich and Newcastle's asics kits are also linked by Ruel Fox!

                    This is the lovely Millwall one also referred to on the Leeds thread, though it's really jarring seeing Kerry Dixon in it;

                      It's great how similar Ruel Fox's stance is in both those pictures. It really captures his game well, on his toes waiting for a wide ball to chase.

                      Or alternately it makes him look like an action figure that isn't poseable enough and that he had to be wheeled around the pitch.

                          By the looks of it, the most famous team asics are currently providing kit for is Lecce:

                          They still seem to be able to handle stripes pretty well, unlike so many other manufacturers.

                            On Ruel Fox, I was at Carrow Road watching us get beat by Luton. Fox was on the bench, the restless crowd chanting for him to come on, finally the manager relents and on he comes to rapturous cheers. Seconds later the ball is played to him, wide on the right, where he's in a bit of space. the ball rolls under his foot and out of play.
                            He was rightly a firm favourite here. he featured on the local news a couple of years ago now running boot camp type fitness sessions south of the border.
                            Research tells me the game was September 1990 and we lost 3 1.

                                Unusual; I had felt compelled to make a thread lauding the efforts of asics in the early-90s but you have saved me the effort. The company are responsible for two of my favourite strips:

                                  That Blackburn shirt was lovely but tragically marred by not having the McEwans logo just in red across both halves without the box.
