I have spent nearly an entire work day trying to sort out the printer. I have my feet up now.

I lost the will to live on that call. But on the plus side I spotted an omission that may prove to be an embarrassment for some annoying people.

The problem is that the market for handmade stuff is so messed up - punters have no idea what represents value any more. Thank fuck that Kirsties Home Made bollocks didn't take off, or else we would have had yet more people piling in thinking they have to sell handmade cards for 50p because they glued a few stickers from The Craft Channel together on their kitchen table. It's hard enough persuading people to buy a signed A4 print for 25. It is that price because you stick it behind a frame on a wall for 80 years out of sunlight, the inks and paper used means that it isn't going to fade. We're not just smashing these things out on a 100 quid inkjet.

Sorry. I'm still tired and ranty, obviously. On a more positive note, because we give away lists of dates when we will come back to a venue, we had several repeat customers specifically coming back to us to buy the new designs. So it isn't all bad.

Went to Manchester Pride today on a market scouting trip. I think that will be our August Bank Holiday venue next year. Should be interesting.
What kind of art do you make? I'm unclear on how to picture all of this.

I gave up my part-time IT contract in June. They were going through the gears setting up an "offshore centre of excellence" so when another opportunity presented itself I moved on.

Deep down I knew I'd have regrets. To have one's health, a happy home life AND part-time work - it's a heady combination. Was life ever better?

    Sigh.

    This is Peckham.

People round here don't spend 25 on art.

    They don't spend 25 on a car...

Basically, the Mrs does drawings / collages / paintings in a number of ways (dip pen and ink, watercolour, paper marquetry) and then we either get cards and magnets made up or hand make coasters, prints and jewellery in the various designs.

The original of this is made up of thousands of dots - there isn't actually a straight line in it, the stippling gives a decent 3D effect. This is a giclee print, which is gallery quality and light-fast behind glass and out of direct sunlight for 80 years.

Leeds gig officially turned down. Had a chat with the CIO of the Manchester business (scheduled for 15 minutes, ended up being 45) and he said at the end that he is telling his board on Monday that he will be taking the three of us on. So not quite signed, sealed and delivered but almost there.

These two chaps you'd be working with would be supportive of you fixing a football message board, right?

Absolutely. But not on the first day. Well, until lunchtime probably.

Anyhow, sounds great. It is always exciting when something lines up well for work. Particularly when you have had solid experience of times when it does not.

Good week here, too. Six weeks or so ago, we took on an intern we liked and we hired him on yesterday. He's thrilled. We're thrilled. And it's awesome giving someone their first 'real' job.

Manchester gig confirmed. Somewhat surprisingly tried to cheap me on rate, but came to an acceptable arrangement. At least for the next four months I'm working with talented people who are good friends and saving 200 quid a month and 180 minutes a day on train fares and travel alone.

Now to get my arse in gear on NewNewOTF!

The man we buy our printer cartridges from seems to have taken a shine to me. He's emailed me 7 times and called me 6 times today, asked me what I did at the weekend and what I had for lunch, and at one point said he'd drop by next time he's in London so he can put a face to the name. Eeeeek.

On the other hand, those cartridges aren't cheap.

Beautiful picture, that, Snake. I've cropped it and printed it out to go on my wall, I assume this is okay?

Mr Toner Cartridge is ignoring me today and no toners have been delivered. "Our" printer has arrived, though.

I've just heated up a baked potato with cheese, which I was hoping to have with baked beans, but I've bought economy beans and there isn't a tin opener in the entire building. I've already been to Robert Dyas once today, to buy kettle descaler and bleach. Not going again.

I've bleached our teacups and they are sparkling white, but all smell of bleach, so I'm soaking them in cold water.

*We are all shocked. She was always so helpful in making the office more comfortable. None of us thought that someone who cleaned our teacups would clean out the safe. It makes one look at the Spanish lessons in a whole new light, too.*

I used to have one person sat nearby who was prone to some occasional backsnotting. We're not talking sniffing here, we're talking full-on, up into the sinuses backsnotting. Now I have two people who do this, and the second one is much, much louder. I want to scream "Just blow your fucking nose!!" every time they do it.
