First decent day of Spring. Good to get the flip-flops out of the cupboard.

Mundane fun today testing two scalextric sets to see if they worked and replacing the power pick ups on the cars.

Unusually still, calm day on the Scouse coast today, so we've two (possibly three) pipistrelles darting and diving around the garden tonight - lovely.

My kitchen dual tap has given up the ghost. It was loose for a while, but now the handle has just come off. So, no water in the kitchen sinks. Right in the middle of baking a cake, too. I had to wash my dishes in the bath. We have a dishwasher, but it hasn't been used since 2010, when hub-B bought the place.

    Lovely tap-in.

My buns are getting extraordinarily large. (Sponges. Possibly the result of too much in too small a space.)

My legs can't stop cramping today. I cycled fairly hard over the last two days, but nothing crazy. Not enough for this. I seem unable to drink enough water to get rehydrated. I'm on my sixth or seventh 24oz glass now. I guess I sweated more than I'd thought.

First day without smoke-haze in a couple of weeks. A bit of rain last night, fresh breeze, blue, blue sky with scudding clouds. We had people over for lunch. I made a proper trifle with fresh peaches and blackberries. Afterwards we went blackberry picking then down to the beach where the nine-year-old among us became righteously fascinated with the contents of tidal pools. Phoebe the Dog found a jolly golden retriever to play with then we all went home for more trifle.

It does. But I can't stand bananas. I've just eaten some Chinese take-away which will pretty much solve any lack of salt in my system. And now my legs mostly feel tired rather than crampy, so I might have broken the back of it.

A friend came over tonight, so I cooked. We had pan seared salmon with a dijon butter sauce, roasted potato wedges and steamed broccoli. Dessert was the orange sherbet I made this afternoon, which came out really nice.

The potatoes could have come out of the oven sooner, but they were still good. I always struggle with timing everything so that it's all done at the same time, but I'm getting better.

Every morning, our 1 year-old labrador puppy (and still very much a puppy!) jumps onto our bed, give us a big sloppy kiss and presents us with something, with whatever she's just picked up basically. It’s usually a sock, a ball of wool, a soft toy, that sort of thing. We are a bit soft with her, we didn’t let our last dog (a wonderful lab/whippet crossbreed that we got in an RSPCA rescue centre – passed away last summer, at 15) do half of what she gets away with but oh well, we’ve mellowed with age and circumstances.

Anyway, this morning, as she is wont to do, she leapt onto the bed and flopped herself with great abandon on our stomachs (complete with a full bladder, charming…), but this time the little rascal had an original prezzie for us: a dead mouse (she must have picked it up (already dead?) in our garage or in the shed – hope it wasn’t in our kitchen! –, or in the garden as she'd just been out for a "combo" – wee + poo –, we leave the French windows ajar from about 7am in the summer to let do her business as she pleases, that involves nibbling at/eating her own poo of course although she seems to be far less coprophagic these days).

Wow, my wife screamed the street down on seeing that dead thing landing on her! She is deffo growing up, that’s for sure (our dog that is, not my wife). We’re a bit apprehensive about having to leave her in a kennel for 2 weeks from tomorrow (we’re off to Scotland and then Catalunya, then Romania for me for an extra week) as she is very attached to us but we have no other alternative this time, so needs must, she’ll have to cope on her own!

    Fair point.
it's a Lego one. Arrived on Saturday.

I've not built an actual Lego model for years, aside for a couple of really simple things for the cub.
Funny how quickly you can get back into the swing of it.

In somewhat Mundane celeb news, a fired DJ has had his $3 million suit against Taylor Swift dismissed for losing his job after groping her ass. And she's won her $1 and symbolic victory suit against him. So, good for her.
