Out of the mouths of babes, pt 63:

"Do they serve food at IKEA because people are stuck here so goddamn long?"

Mixing up your retail outlets, eh?

Can I just say how knackered I am today.

I'm exceptionally knackered today. A week of decorating takes it out of you if you're not used to it. The Terry-envy is debilitating too.

Off to Berlin for the weekend tomorrow, so can't complain too much.

  5. #23980
Well, I've sort of got Berlin-envy, but maybe I'll save it for when it's warmer. I'm still grounded without a passport.

    You have fun, though.

I only shop where they have generous bathrooms and serve lunch.

What qualifies as a generous bathroom? One that allows you two squirts of hand lotion?

    Very good.

No, bathrooms that are readily accessible (near to where you are) and with facilities sufficient that you can walk in and sit, without waiting feverishly in a queue for one to become free.

Don't all bathrooms have somewhere you can sit. Isn't that rather the point of bathrooms?

Ah. See, our local GO station has one small room per gender. The men's contains both the urinal and toilet, so only one person can use the room for anything at all at a time. At least a McDonald's has a separate stall and urinal, so two functions can be accomplished at once.

Costco generally has 3 or 4 stalls, plus three urinals. IKEA is similar. As an IBS sufferer, those sorts of things matter.

Oh I know. La Signora is a lifelong sufferer, (and has a phobia about using public toilets, which doesn't help.)

That is a highly unfortunate combination.

Indeed. I have no such qualms.

My 'hitch' is that my IBS is tightly linked to my agoraphobia, which means I'm usually at my squirreliest where there are the fewest available facilities.

Yeah. She has a number of crosses to bear. This morning she got stuck again. Partly on the floor, partly face down on the bed. Fortunately I was in the house. Though — as usual — she gets exhausted trying to deal with it herself. Fortunately this time it wasn't a fall.

I'm going to Berlin in the new year. Yay!

    Have fun

I went in the Happening Bagel place again tonight, for a salmon bagel and a rye loaf. Very uneventful.

I don’t get chewy weird dough bagelness. My fault, I’m sure (and possibly the shit attempts available in Dublin).

  21. #23996
I prefer the softer ones you get fresh from the bakery to shop-bought ones. Never really understood the bagel-mania of people queuing in Brick Lane in the early hours.

Bagels have a slightly shit mid late 90s Madeleine moment for me. Posh delis in Embra had them when I was doing The TEFL exam. Pastrami and smoked cheese in a chewy as fuck ring bun, maybe not as sophisticated as it seemed at 22. See also Pierre Victoire chain of French style bistros in the Central Belt cities. Was almost certainly a bit shit but introduced cheap French style food to the lunchtime office drone masses. Game Changer for Scotland.

I was in Brick Lane earlier, but for curry purposes. Now at home, full of Hariyali Chicken, Lamb Bhuna, Veg Pilau and Garlic Naan.

All paid for by t'company, so I'm sure I won't regret it in the morning.

Peasants. (Perhaps influenced by how shitty the bagels of the British Isles are). California bagels are a long way short of the really good ones you get in NY and New Jersey, but they're still delicious.

Peasants, eh? Get a good curry (or a Beigel Bake Beigel) then come back to us.
