According to this article, Di Canio's t-shirt said (presumably translated)
“The true samurai must return from battle either with his enemy’s head under his arm or without a head of his own.”
Okay - so when the 'Samurai' saw this happen, why didn't he go over and cut his head off, instead of stop the game?
(Incidentally, I wholeheartedly approve of what Di Canio did on that occasion, although I think he's a revolting little shit for the fascist salute stuff.)
I always thought Di Canio's thing was a homage to Peter Schmeichel, who stood still and made pretty much the same gesture to the linesman while Di Canio knocked the ball past him in that Cup game ...
