I've always wondered that, but have never seen a version large enough to decipher what the quote is.

He reminds me of Jimmy Corkhill.

According to this article, Di Canio's t-shirt said (presumably translated)

“The true samurai must return from battle either with his enemy’s head under his arm or without a head of his own.”

Those samurai were tough if they could return home without their head.

It's the whole St. Denis thing, innit?

El Nino is the name of a wind? and if so I would be quite happy for the tabloids to allude to Torres being a bit of a fart.

Well, not quite. It isn't a wind. Not really. But it's OK, it just means Torres is a wet fart.

Okay - so when the 'Samurai' saw this happen, why didn't he go over and cut his head off, instead of stop the game?

(Incidentally, I wholeheartedly approve of what Di Canio did on that occasion, although I think he's a revolting little shit for the fascist salute stuff.)

I always thought Di Canio's thing was a homage to Peter Schmeichel, who stood still and made pretty much the same gesture to the linesman while Di Canio knocked the ball past him in that Cup game ...

                        That was Barthez.

Crikey, yes it was, wasn't it. Funny how objectionable Man United players all meld into one in my addled memory.
