The relationship between sex and fender

Some of the most beautiful designs of the twentieth century.

    Phwooar.

    And...

    Dear god.

And they sound great, none of your six-string nonsense here.

Probably just me and Bored, then, although Eggchaser is a devotee of the four steel cables of love, I believe?

    Unfortunately not, CV.
I've always wanted an old sunburst Precision but could never afford one.
I bought a Mexican P-bass twenty years ago from Manny's in NYC after playing it through a Gallien-Kruger head and Mesa 4x10 but the kids needed new beds so it had to go.
Ampeg is undoubtedly tops for making it louder, particularly SVT .
    I mixed a band once in a small club who had 2 SVT's powering an 8x10 and a 2x 18 separately.
All you can do is laugh.
You need to go for old passive pickups too, none of that active nonsense which costs around two grand and won't work without a £2.50 9v battery.
Musicman is a beautiful design too but doesn't have the sonic beauty of the Precision.

There are two things there, Calvert.

Firstly, I am a guitarist that has become a bass-player as we already had two guitarists in the band. I like to think of myself as akin to Lemmy in that way.

Secondly, I play and happen to love this little-known Fender bass

        Tsk.
It's people like you who give us a bad name, 'failed guitarists' , exponents ot the 'instrument of ignorance', and other untruths.
Nice bass though, looks a delight to play.

Just noticed that for all the beauty of that guitar, it's being strained through a Peavey combo.
          Unless that.s a Hartke head and a Peavey 4x10?

I would give my left ball, my first born child, a pound of flesh, a pint of blood, and as much money as I can beg, borrow or steal for a lefty Bass VI:

Until then I'll stick with my battered and snidey Squier P-Bass. As for the 2 SVT setup you mention.. good grief.

And that's a Hartke - friend of mine used one for years, pretty nice amp though not particularly for me.

Those Bass VIs are weird. They aren't as bad as those jazz funk planks of wood however. I think Joe Perry used one which supports Calvert's prejudice.

Nice bass though, looks a delight to play.
It is lovely and having a more guitar-size body means I can throw shapes a bit more with it. Unfortunately, it is not mine, it is the guitarist's who plays bass in another band. Only not that bass. Are you taking notes, there is a test at the end. I am going to have to buy one myself though, I think. He keeps sending me links to Ebay when they come up for sale which I am taking as a hint

I have no idea. We invariably borrow amps so I just plug into whatever is there and assume the other bass player knows what he is doing so don't adjust anything. That isn't going to improve my standing in Bassworld, is it? The one I use if I have to is a Trace Elliot head

I used to have one of these...

The pickups were crap particularly around the D and G, no compressor pedal or tweaking of pickup positioning was ever going to fix it, so I treated myself to some nice Seymour-Duncan's also at Manny's because everything was so goddamned cheap in the States.
It was a thing of great beauty, so slender at the nut you could almost wrap your fingers around it twice at the F.
Again though, financial hardship struck and I sold it to my cousin who actually did play cricket with it when he was pished.
                          Phillistine.
I used to have one of these also...

...which was beautiful but really bastard heavy and the same problem with the silent D and G.

                              Aria Pro II SLB

                              (avoid anything called 'Pro')

I got it as a replacement for the Ibanez Blazer.
Wanted something lighter and more twangy.
Pretty cock headstock on it, but it was lovely.Eventually.

That sounds ideal for some of the one chord (note?) tunes in the DG repertoire.

PS is Manny as mentioned above the bloke who used to be in Fife rockers Nazareth?

Also, that delightful Fender amp and this talk of 18" speakers means I have to post a link to this absolute fucking maniac (possibly been posting already, like).

It's definitely big, but I'm not so sure it's clever..

It does look a bit Yamaha, I think the Yamaha series were a bit cheaper, both were very popular budget axes in the early '90's.

You'd need something approaching that kind of power to move 18's properly, jim, unless you can find a stereo bass amp switchable to bridge mode.
                                        Barry's the business, DG.

                                        Class now.

However, I came out with one of these, which is very nice to play and £400 cheaper.
