Madeiran independence was a big thing until this happened:

They had a huge amount of autonmy up to that point and wanted full independence. The problem in Portugal, as with other Southern European countries, is that corruption is endemic, accepted and almost worn as a Trump-esque badge of honour. Alberto Joao Jardim was seen, even by people on the mainland, as an admirable cavelier, constantly sticking two fingers up to Lisbon. Amazingly, he's still free from prosecution today.

Azores is so heavily subsidised by the mainland the bigger fear is Portugal cutting it loose. It effectively has cut off the islands without tourism, which live in extreme poverty.

The corrupt "wayward" region in Spain mentioned in that article is... Castilla - La Mancha. The region around Madrid. I realise your position has softened from "all politicians away from the capital are motivated entirely by greed and corruption " to "99% are", but I still think your figures are a bit high.

And if corruption is endemic as you say isn't that primarily the fault of the central government?

So, a new Spanish election would likely see a PP-Ciudadanos coalition, and a far-right party winning a seat:

In strange Catalan coalition news, the Socialists have joined forces with Unió, of the old CiU party:

PSOE in all its constituent parts has shown itself to be pretty bloody hideous pretty bloody consistently, over many years, to be fair.

It seems Rajoy has some money "resting in accounts", so Catalonia proving a welcome smokescreen.

Fuck them, fuck them and their Inquisition fearing so pork addicted as a matter of national pride Torrente fat fascist pig PP bastards. Half the people who voted for her are pobre Spanish speaking in no way friendly to Catalunyan nationalism. To charge her with sedition like it’s the fucking 1790s, you are moving them into the molt catala camp. Stupid evil PP bastards.

Saw something on Twitter about her and Trapero being charged, but as you say, no follow-up as yet. 750k today at the Llibertat Presos Politicos protest:

Barcelona en Comú cuts its pact with local Socialists over the latter's support for 155:

Not that it is significant, but that isn’t Companys’ grave (which is on Montjuic), but rather a monument in the town where he was born.

The Sensible liberals and Proud Unionists Ciudadanos seem to be doing very well from this. What a surprise that the PSOE has gained nothing from rubbing PP’s belly over 155. Though of course Podemos seem to have suffered nationwide as well. I guess the Right (and their enablers that will tolerate almost anything if taxes stay low and Unity is upheld) are in the ascendant now.
