Potentially unpopular opinions that you hold true
Ray Stevens didn't even record the second-best version. Any opinion that does not hold Mathis' to be the best thoroughly deserves to be not only unpopular, but despised as anathema. But Donny Hathaway's cover comes a close second.

I don't think the idea is to debate George's point. He's already stated that the opinion is 'potentially unpopular'.
Anyway, here's another: 'Teenage Dirtbag' is and remains a great pop record.
Now watch this drive.

Barry Manilow was a first class arranger of pop songs, many of which would command much greater respect were it not for Bazza's reputation as a Richard Clayderman of popular music.

Pink fucking Floyd.
Any music which unites both dreary stoners and middle aged stockbrokers hammering down the M40 in an Audi B7 RS4 wearing too tight jeans deserves to disappear in a Stalinist reign of terror.
And you can add Bob Marley and the Doors to that list as well.

For example:- Dire Straits were a much better band the the OTF hive-mind would have one believe. Recently heard Tunnel of Love by them for the first time in years; the melancholy in the delivery of the lyrics in that song is aching. Rooted in a particularly local nostalgia as well, which is a good form of the type as opposed to bland generalised nostalgia. You can tell Knopfler is talking about stuff personally important to him.
