They used to wind me up no end. Stuck in a line of traffic crawling towards a "3 lanes into 1" diversion I'd watch them, in their metallic-coloured cars, as they headed to the very front of the queue before cutting in and boiling my blood in the process.

In the end I decided if I couldn't beat them I'd join them, so if you see a well-behaved BMW driver it's probably me trying to rewrite the rules of perceived cuntdom.

I've got loads of prejudices I'm not proud of. I'm quite a queasy person, so there are many types of disfiguration that I struggle to deal with. I find it really hard, for example, to look at a picture of someone with a cleft lip; it makes me tremble and feel nauseous. I try to force myself sometimes in the hope that I'll get over it if I'm exposed to it for long enough. Of course I wouldn't be prejudiced against an individual with a cleft lip, but that won't really matter if I can't look them in the face.

I'm instinctively wary of packs of young men, more so if they're the swaggering type or seem drunk. If any of them tries to make contact with me (eg to ask for a cigarette) I will ignore them. I'm not much better with homeless people, again especially if they're young, male and in a group. This is irrational since I've never had any trouble or abuse from a homeless person; in fact they generally go out of their way to smile and be polite.

And here's one for you, Bored: I briefly taught in a school (in France) with a large number of Gypsy pupils, and without any understanding of Gypsy culture or any institutional support, I found it very hard not to racialise the problems and negative incidents which occurred with Gypsy children and their families. I think this was a structural, institutional problem — the school didn't have any kind of plan or support system to deal with the Gypsy community or with recurring issues that concerned them (of which absenteeism was the most important), and indeed could not do so on the basis that French education is race-blind. In addition, one of the local Gypsy settlements was in the process of being removed, and relations between Gypsy and Arab students were tense following a small race riot in a nearby town. Even though I tried to rationalise the situation in this way, I can't say I was successful in preventing my work from being influenced by negative stereotypes about Gypsy families. And I'm not proud of it.

Must be a regional thing. I've come across very few Stefanies and Melanies. The Petras I've encountered all had kids in great big prams.

Every second woman in Hamburg is called Kathrin, or something that sounds like Kathrin.

I've only ever met one Birgitta and she was Danish. Smoked like a chimney.

On the subject of similar-sounding forenames, I always think a Kerstin is going to be attractive even if I've never seen her, although I never think this about a Kirsten.

Don't you just hate it when stereotypes (which are sort of incipient prejudices) seem to be regularly reinforced? A biggie in this city is the one about Chinese drivers. That they always drive at least 20km below the posted limit and signal, if at all, when they've completed a turn. It's not true, of course, if it was there'd be constant gridlock, but it's noticeable enough to build irritation and after that the skies the limit.

Your wife's OK with the Glaswegian accent, I think we decided, I am positively disposed to Gypsy, Roma and Travellers ('tinker' not being, you know..) and I am not sure that we took against tattoos, just those on the ladies. I think we had a tattoo gallery years ago and there are a fair few on OTF.

That is fascinating, laverte, and thanks for sharing. Of course, it isn't really your issue, it is a societal one that you are suffering the residual effects of, in the same way as we all suffer from residual racism or whatever. The key is recognising it, addressing it and, of course, not being proud of it.

Of course, not that it makes it better, but there is plenty of prejudice amongst GRT towards other races and towards other groups within the community - Irish Travellers and English Gypsies, for example.

Do I take it that there are such things as specific support for ethnic minorities or children with French as an additional language then?

When I am at work (behind the tills), and someone comes up to be served whilst talking on a mobile phone. That is just rude. Oh, and people who ask to purchase another thing, after you have taken their money (this also applies to 'Cashback').

People who iron denim trousers.

A 'family' member told me I am going to lunch on Monday. Firstly, I am working, and secondly, if anyone tells me what is going to happen, and I have an option, the option is to do the opposite. Fucking invite me.

Overseas students (in Brighton) who really, really must talk so fucking loudly on the bus. Ditto, people who play music without headphones, on the bus. And people who are on the phone constantly when I go to work (at 6am... who the fuck is up at that time apart from me and them?)

People who talk and eat at the same time, especially, when they are sitting across from me. Not pleasant. (Thanks for that, R... and then you wanted me to kiss you? HAHAHAHAH)

Ex-flings, who don't acknowledge you in the street when you pass them (although, I am a twat as I have done this, and I hated myself for all of 3 seconds).

People who say that my taste in music is shit. No-one's taste in music is shit, to them.

People who dont, or have never, read a book (unless they cant). That way madness lies (ditto for people, one in particular, who don't like music). How is that even possible?

I know a little about dicks, and I can safely say, that no matter what you might think it is (size wise), it isn't. It's not for you to judge*. And I know many people who only like certain sizes (think about it...), so, just get on with life. I am. And I have a whopper.
