    Loan Players

    http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sheff...nts.3928834.jp

Apart from my amusement that Wednesday should make such asses of themselves; the more serious point is on the prevalence of loan players these days. I can't think it is right for so many players to be lent out, particularly at this stage of the season. Perhaps if the practice was banned (apart from possible emergency loan of a keeper) We might actually see some of promising younger players signing for a wider range of clubs rather than being content to sit in reserves and look for loan deals.

The loan system is just a reflection of the polarisation of football finances. The downside to clubs that rely on the loan system (such as Wednesday - and much more surprisingly Stoke) is that the players concerned have no real incentive beyond personal pride to perform.

Not a problem that United will have to contend with until the parachute payments run out.

Funnily enough, Wednesday's more impressive performers in recent weeks have been youngsters they were forced to play.
